David Parish presents Facts of the Matter Looking Past Today's Rhetoric on the Environment and Responsible Development

In his highly acclaimed book, Facts of the Matter Looking Past Today's Rhetoric on the Environment and Responsible Development, Alaskan David Parish promotes a fact-based approach toward environmental stewardship, responsible development, improved public health, and the elimination of poverty.  In it, he examines how the traditional approaches to natural resource development, with the "us versus them" divides, can be bridged. David Parish has worked around the globe as an independent business and nonprofit consultant, lobbyist, and entrepreneur. For over 30 years, Alaska has been his home base for his diverse set of local, national and international clients that include energy and mining industry leaders as well as environmental activists and Indigenous leaders.   “His goal is to spearhead a real conversation about environment, economic growth, and the needs of our increasing global population.” Everyone is welcome to attend this event.  All UAA Campus Bookstore events are free and open to the… Categories: Free Admission, Free Food and Beverages. Translator Andrea Gregovich presents Vladimir Kozlov's 1987 and Other Stories

Translator Andrea Gregovich presents Vladimir Kozlov’s 1987 and Other Stories, A boy and girl risk a trip to the psych ward when they dress like punks after listening to a bootleg Sex Pistols cassette. A career-ending injury sends a football star back to his provincial hometown as the Soviet republics begin claiming independence. A university student risks police brutality to take part in a protest against the president of newly independent Belarus. These and the other stories in Vladimir Kozlov’s first translated collection evoke the confusion of coming of age during perestroika. While Kozlov’s characters are absorbed in their own struggles, their stories are unavoidably political, mirroring their nation’s uncertainties and the existential crisis of their generation’s post-Soviet adulthood. Wellness Break for Mid Campus

A wellness break is at most, 30 minutes out of the work day where students in the HPER program will facilitate various activities focused around the dimensions of wellness and the employees needs in their office space. This eliminates many of the barriers that prevent us from participating in activities to improve or maintain our wellness. Short breaks during the work day have been shown to have many benefits including a chance to de-stress and relax, refresh or reboot the mind and body to return to work more productive, create and enhance workplace relationships, and increased morale for the UAA community.  These specific wellness breaks at the Bookstore are open to UAA employees and students. Try to attend at least one or two a week to receive the full benefits. An activity schedule for these wellness breaks can be seen on your very own Google calendar. Email uaa.wellness@alaska.edu requesting access to the calendar. Note: January 22, March 26, April 4, and April 30 will begin by gathering in the… Audience: For the Public/Community: TRUE.
