Sitka: 4-H True Leaders
This pre-camp training is for teens who would like to be teen leaders at any of the Sitka Spruce Tips 4-H camps this summer.
We will train teens to be camp counselors and youth leaders. This training will be fun and bonding (including a ropes course, escape room and ice cream making!) and useful (learn age-appropriate games and behavior management). Open to teens in grades 7 & up.

Introduction to Rifle will be taught Fridays and Sundays in April and May (nine meetings total), beginning April 10. Fridays 5-6:30 p.m. Sundays 3:30-5 p.m. Youth only need to sign up for one group. The Alaska Range Riders meet once per month, January through September, in Delta Junction at the UAF Cooperative Extension Service Delta Junction District Office, Jarvis Office Center, 1420.5 Alaska Highway, Room 112. Meetings usually take place on a Wednesday, 4-6 p.m.; however, it is best to contact a leader for updated meeting schedule. Fairbanks: Tanana District 4-H Market Tasting
Tanana District 4-H market livestock members will host a 4-H Market Tasting event June 6 at the Tanana Valley State Fairgrounds in the 4-H Building upstairs (former Totem Building). Hours are 1-3 p.m. Everyone is invited to learn about the 4-H auction, meet youth with market projects, enjoy free samples, and learn how to buy locally grown meat to stock in your freezer or business. Admission is free.
Youth will sponsor tables and provide a food item inspired by the animal they are raising, emphasizing the farm-to-table aspect. Potential market livestock buyers will learn tips on the various animals they could purchase at the fair market livestock auction and get ideas on how the animal can be used in various dishes.
The tasting event will also help youth who still need contacts for their record books and to qualify to market, give youth a chance to attract potential new buyers, and build a pool of community members who attend and support youth.

Fairbanks: Dining with Diabetes: A diabetes management and food course
Learn the basics of living with and managing diabetes in "Dining with Diabetes: A diabetes management and food course," led by Leslie Shallcross, a UAF Cooperative Extension Service health, home and family development agent. Participants will learn health-promoting lifestyle habits and how to plan meals. Each class will include a discussion and a demonstration of healthy cooking for people with diabetes. This class is for individuals with pre-diabetes or diabetes, and their family members.

Fairbanks: 4-H Wildlife & Wildfire Day Camp
Learn about some of the large animal research at UAF and about wildfires. This day camp will start at the UAF Large Animal Research Station, 2220 Yankovich Road, to view some wildlife and then we will go across the street to the Yankovich Road Wildfire Walk to learn about wildfires, eat lunch and learn about the Firewise Program.
Bring appropriate shoes and clothing for a 40-minute hike. Let us know if there are any food allergies.
This day camp is geared for ages 9-19 as of Oct. 1, 2025. Maximum grade is 12th.

Come meet and pet goats from The Tiny Home(stead), a family farm in Chugiak, and learn about what it takes to raise animals and run a farm in Alaska. 4-H personnel will talk to children about animal husbandry in Alaska, environmental science, etc. 3600 Denali Street, Loussac Library Lawn (If the weather outside is unsafe for the goats, we'll meet in the 4th floor Learning Commons.),
NOTE: Only ~20 people at a time will be able to enter the goat pen and participants will spend a limited amount of time with the goats. We anticipate these events will be very popular. Location: Join us outside at Chanshtnu-Muldoon Park, a short walk to the south of the library. We will be at the natural grass section under the trees at the south-west corner of the park, almost exactly where Debarr makes a T with Muldoon. Sitka's 4-H Bike Club is a free biking program that supports youth in growing confidence in biking skills and provides them a chance to learn in a fun environment. The six-week program meets on Tuesday afternoons, beginning June 23.
We are looking for a relatively consistent group of youth so we can build a community throughout the summer and improve our skills. This is a great opportunity to prepare for our Bikepacking Overnight Adventure in July. Open to grades 4 & up.

Learn the basics of living with and managing diabetes in "Dining with Diabetes: A diabetes management and food course," led by Leslie Shallcross, a UAF Cooperative Extension Service health, home and family development agent. Participants will learn health-promoting lifestyle habits and how to plan meals. Each class will include a discussion and a demonstration of healthy cooking for people with diabetes. This class is for individuals with pre-diabetes or diabetes, and their family members.

Learn about and forage for the elusive and delicious spring morel mushrooms with mycologist, Christin Swearingen, co-founder of the Fairbanks Mycology Society and Fairbanks Fungi Festival.
This guided morel hunt will include hands-on identification instruction for the fire morel, plus, tips on safe preparation & preservation, and how to find locations for future morel hunts. Morels are not guaranteed! But we'll do the best we can to find a good spring bounty.

Sitka: 4-H Summer Tuesday Bike Club
Sitka's 4-H Bike Club is a free biking program that supports youth in growing confidence in biking skills and provides them a chance to learn in a fun environment. The six-week program meets on Tuesday afternoons, beginning June 23.
We are looking for a relatively consistent group of youth so we can build a community throughout the summer and improve our skills. This is a great opportunity to prepare for our Bikepacking Overnight Adventure in July. Open to grades 4 & up.

In Alaska, fishing for dinner is a favorite summer activity. If your river or ocean adventure nets you more than just one dinner, you should be prepared to preserve your harvest for enjoyment long after summer ends. In this webinar, Leslie Shallcross, health, home and family development agent with the UAF Cooperative Extension Service, will demonstrate how to properly preserve your catch so you can fill your pantry or freezer with safe, high-quality and delicious fish. She will cover preserving your fish catch through canning, smoking or freezing.

Fairbanks: Dining with Diabetes: A diabetes management and food course
Learn the basics of living with and managing diabetes in "Dining with Diabetes: A diabetes management and food course," led by Leslie Shallcross, a UAF Cooperative Extension Service health, home and family development agent. Participants will learn health-promoting lifestyle habits and how to plan meals. Each class will include a discussion and a demonstration of healthy cooking for people with diabetes. This class is for individuals with pre-diabetes or diabetes, and their family members.
The course will be held at the University Park Building Room 154, 1000 University Avenue, Fairbanks on Wednesdays from 5:30-7:30 p.m. June 10, 24 and July 1, 8.

AK Experience Camp is a fun-filled, five-day residential camp in Haines hosted by Alaska 4-H at the Echo Ranch Haines facility across from the Rainbow Glacier, 169 Rainbow Camp Road, Haines, Alaska.
Campers from 11- to 18-years-old, stay in rustic cabins, swim, hike, zip-line, kayak, fish, forage, craft, learn outdoor skills (like shelter and fire building) and more.
Campers will also prepare artistic and culinary entries for the Southeast Alaska State Fair, where they will spend the day enjoying the exhibits and performers, helping with the recycling program and leading fun activities of their choosing.

Sitka's 4-H Bike Club is a free biking program that supports youth in growing confidence in biking skills and provides them a chance to learn in a fun environment. The six-week program meets on Tuesday afternoons, beginning June 23.

The Sitka 4-H Art of Nature camp engages both the right brain and left brain of the young and young at heart, featuring a mash-up of art and environmental science that encourages creativity and science exploration.
Participants will experience nature by sketching scientific observations with various art mediums and techniques, and they will experience environmental science by way of models and experiments.
