Palmer: Selling Homemade Foods
Learn about the significant changes the Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation made to the cottage food industry. The rules were significantly expanded in 2024 and are now known as the Homemade Food Exemption.
Sarah Lewis, UAF Cooperative Extension Service health, home and family development agent, will explain the changes. If you have a Homemade Foods business, would like to start one, or might sell homemade foods through your market, knowledge of the new rules will help ensure you're in compliance. It's important to understand the risks and opportunities associated with selling either potentially harmful or nonpotentially harmful foods from a home-based business. There will be time for questions following the presentation.
The workshop will meet in-person in Room 208 of Kerttula Hall at the Matanuska Experiment Farm and Extension Center, 1509 S. Georgeson Drive, Palmer or via Zoom.
Register for both in-person and Zoom options using the online form or visit https://bit.ly/HomeFoodSales.

Zines for Change Workshop with ORCA POD
Join ORCA POD Peer Prevention Educators for this Zine Workshop. Learn to create your own zines, small booklets between 8 and 32 pages long often illustrated with imagery and poetry, etc. Dating back to the 19th century, these charming folded-paper books, called chapbooks were inspired by popular culture and were perfect for mixing visual art and written texts. In the 1970's the zine was coopted by the young punk movement as a way to disseminate information on various punk bands and other information including poetry and photocopy imagery. In this workshop, we will write from prompts and exercises to produce fragments of poetry and prose then blend with stamping, drawing, painting, and collage techniques to make our own individual zines sewn by machine, hand or stapled. MA Thesis Defense: Everyday Life in the Work of Virginia Woolf
This MA thesis defense examines how Woolf’s fiction and essays portray the texture of ordinary experience—what she called “moments of non-being” or the “cotton wool” of daily life. Through close readings of The Years, Mrs. Dalloway, The Waves, and To the Lighthouse, the project argues that Woolf’s focus on the mundane highlights its psychological and gendered dimensions, revealing that life’s richness resides as much in the everyday as in the extraordinary.
