The UAF Cooperative Extension Service Tanana District office in Fairbanks will check pressure canner dial gauges and answer food preservation questions by appointment.
Annual gauge testing is recommended to ensure the safety of pressure-canned food.

Fairbanks: StrongWomen/StrongPeople strength training program
StrongWomen/StrongPeople Strength Training Program is a progressive strength-training program designed for midlife and older adults by increasing muscle strength and bone density, improving balance and preventing falls. The classes are taught by Leslie Shallcross, health, home and family development agent with the University of Alaska Fairbanks Cooperative Extension Service.
Light hand and leg weights are available in class. Participants should purchase weights to use at home. Participants will be standing, sitting or on the floor for exercises. Dress in comfortable clothing and wear low-heeled, sturdy shoes or sneakers should be worn. 18 and older.
Summer is from June 3-Aug. 28, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 2-3:30 p.m.

Joey Slowik, integrated pest management technician at the University of Alaska Fairbanks Cooperative Extension Service in Palmer, will cover the beneficial insects that are natural enemies of pest bugs. He will discuss potential insect friends, what they want, and some ways to encourage them in your garden. Fairbanks: StrongWomen/StrongPeople strength training program
StrongWomen/StrongPeople Strength Training Program is a progressive strength-training program designed for midlife and older adults by increasing muscle strength and bone density, improving balance and preventing falls. The classes are taught by Leslie Shallcross, health, home and family development agent with the University of Alaska Fairbanks Cooperative Extension Service.
Light hand and leg weights are available in class. Participants should purchase weights to use at home. Participants will be standing, sitting or on the floor for exercises. Dress in comfortable clothing and wear low-heeled, sturdy shoes or sneakers should be worn. 18 and older.
Summer is from June 3-Aug. 28, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 2-3:30 p.m.

Music in the Garden takes place every Thursday at the UAF Georgeson Botanical Garden from May 22 through Aug. 14. The first band begins at 6 p.m.; the second at 7:30 p.m.
Music in the Garden does not cancel due to weather. In case of unhealthy conditions such as smoke, Music in the Garden will be moved to the Regents' Great Hall in the Fine Arts Complex on the UAF Campus. When raining, Music in the Garden will take place under the covered Rotary pavilion in the garden. Please call Summer Sessions at 907-474-7021 to check.

Juneau: AK Experience Camp
AK Experience Camp 2025: Aaniyaadu.oow "Perspectives of the Land" is a residential camp offering a wide variety of activities related to outdoor survival, hunting, fishing, foraging, indigenous knowledge and traditional ecological knowledge held on the University of Alaska Southeast Auke Lake Campus near Juneau.
AK Experience Camp 2025 is a collaboration between UAF Cooperative Extension Service 4-H and Goldbelt Heritage Foundation with support from local businesses and organizations.
Camper ages: entering 7th grade through high school. Tuition is $250. Some assistance is available. Registration deadline is June 18.

Certified Food Protection Manager class
The University of Alaska Fairbanks Cooperative Extension Service is offering a Certified Food Protection Manager class that will cover material required to pass the National Restaurant Association's ServSafe Manager exam for Alaska.
A certified food protection manager is responsible for monitoring and managing all food establishment operations to ensure compliance with regulations. State regulations require that all food establishments have at least one certified food protection manager on staff.
The class is from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with a lunch break. The class is available statewide via Zoom or in person at the Tanana District Cooperative Extension office, 1000 University Ave. Fairbanks. The Zoom link will be emailed to participants one week before the class.
The $200 fee includes instruction, the training manual and one proctored certification exam, with proctors in Fairbanks, Juneau, Sitka and other communities upon request. In some locations, the proctored exam will take place immediately…

This hands-on workshop is funded by NASA’s National Space Grant College and Fellowship Program. The overall goal of this workshop is to center Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEIA) in NASA and STEM lessons and activities for both K-12 and informal education settings. Participants will be eligible to earn two Professional Development credits (30 hours) through the University of North Dakota. If you are interested in having your own business one day (or now!), the Jr. Farmers Market 4-H Camp is the camp for you. Youths will harvest and develop local products (food and art) to sell at one or two markets (Made in Sitka and Farmers Market). Participants will also obtain a food handler’s certification. Open to Sitka 4-H members ages 9 & up. Cost is $20.

StrongWomen/StrongPeople Strength Training Program is a progressive strength-training program designed for midlife and older adults by increasing muscle strength and bone density, improving balance and preventing falls. The classes are taught by Leslie Shallcross, health, home and family development agent with the University of Alaska Fairbanks Cooperative Extension Service.
Light hand and leg weights are available in class. Participants should purchase weights to use at home. Participants will be standing, sitting or on the floor for exercises. Dress in comfortable clothing and wear low-heeled, sturdy shoes or sneakers should be worn. 18 and older.

The IDEAS (Innovative Differentiated Exploration Activities in Space Science) Team comprised of the South Carolina Space Grant Consortium (SCSGC), North Carolina Space Grant Consortium (NCSGC), and the North Dakota Space Grant Consortium (NDSGC) is partnering with the Alaska Space Grant Program (ASGP) to provide this DEIA workshop in Alaska. This hands-on workshop is funded by NASA’s National Space Grant College and Fellowship Program. The overall goal of this workshop is to center Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEIA) in NASA and STEM lessons and activities for both K-12 and informal education settings. Participants will be eligible to earn two Professional Development credits (30 hours) through the University of North Dakota. Interested educators are highly encouraged to contact their local Space Grant Consortium to inquire about potential funding sponsorship to attend the workshop.

Music in the Garden takes place every Thursday at the UAF Georgeson Botanical Garden from May 22 through Aug. 14. The first band begins at 6 p.m.; the second at 7:30 p.m.
Music in the Garden does not cancel due to weather. In case of unhealthy conditions such as smoke, Music in the Garden will be moved to the Regents' Great Hall in the Fine Arts Complex on the UAF Campus. Science for Alaska Summer Series
The Geophysical Institute Public Information team is partnering again with Explore Fairbanks and the Morris Thompson Cultural & Visitors Center for the 2nd annual Science for Alaska Summer Series. This Science for Alaska extension series furthers the GI’s investment in public outreach and engagement beyond the long-running Winter Series to reach summer visitors in an off-campus location.
This year, there will be a presentation every second Saturday from June through September starting at 11:30 a.m. The talks will be about 30 minutes long with extended time for Q&A.

Cloverbud Camp is a day camp that offers an out-of-doors adventure for children ages 5-8. It provides the fun of camp with the security of evenings at home. The program runs July 14-16 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Georgeson Botanical Garden, located on the UAF Troth Yeddha' Campus.
Nature observations, crafts, games and educational adventures are designed to appeal to this age group's interests and attention span. FUN is the key ingredient! Staff will include the 4-H agent, a certified adult leader, junior teen counselors ages 12 and up, and resource people from the community.
Registration is open and camp is limited to 25 day campers. All 4-H youth and non-4-H youth are welcome.

Music in the Garden takes place every Thursday at the UAF Georgeson Botanical Garden from May 22 through Aug. 14. The first band begins at 6 p.m.; the second at 7:30 p.m.
Music in the Garden does not cancel due to weather. In case of unhealthy conditions such as smoke, Music in the Garden will be moved to the Regents' Great Hall in the Fine Arts Complex on the UAF Campus. Music in the Garden takes place every Thursday at the UAF Georgeson Botanical Garden from May 22 through Aug. 14. The first band begins at 6 p.m.; the second at 7:30 p.m.
Music in the Garden does not cancel due to weather. In case of unhealthy conditions such as smoke, Music in the Garden will be moved to the Regents' Great Hall in the Fine Arts Complex on the UAF Campus. Picking Alaska berries is a favorite pastime for Alaskans in late summer and fall. Finding a bountiful harvest area can be challenging, so how can you increase supply and quality?
Some Alaska berries can be successfully propagated and cultivated. Learn how to manage berry patches, and how to create and/or cultivate a patch in your garden or backyard. Learn from UAF Alaska berry expert Pat Holloway where, how and when to plant native berry species. Get your hands dirty with hands-on instruction for seeding, propagation and cultivating berries. Take home the berries you plant during class so your home patch can get a head start before winter.

StrongWomen/StrongPeople Strength Training Program is a progressive strength-training program designed for midlife and older adults by increasing muscle strength and bone density, improving balance and preventing falls. The classes are taught by Leslie Shallcross, health, home and family development agent with the University of Alaska Fairbanks Cooperative Extension Service.
Light hand and leg weights are available in class. Participants should purchase weights to use at home. Participants will be standing, sitting or on the floor for exercises. Dress in comfortable clothing and wear low-heeled, sturdy shoes or sneakers should be worn. 18 and older.
Summer is from June 3-Aug. 28, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 2-3:30 p.m.

Music in the Garden
Music in the Garden takes place every Thursday at the UAF Georgeson Botanical Garden from May 22 through Aug. 14. The first band begins at 6 p.m.; the second at 7:30 p.m.
Music in the Garden does not cancel due to weather. In case of unhealthy conditions such as smoke, Music in the Garden will be moved to the Regents' Great Hall in the Fine Arts Complex on the UAF Campus. When raining, Music in the Garden will take place under the covered Rotary pavilion in the garden. Please call Summer Sessions at 907-474-7021 to check.
Parking is limited - attendees are encouraged to use a FREE shuttle that departs from the Nenana Parking Lot, located across from the Patty Center, beginning at 5:30 p.m.

Science for Alaska Summer Series
The Geophysical Institute Public Information team is partnering again with Explore Fairbanks and the Morris Thompson Cultural & Visitors Center for the 2nd annual Science for Alaska Summer Series. This Science for Alaska extension series furthers the GI’s investment in public outreach and engagement beyond the long-running Winter Series to reach summer visitors in an off-campus location.
This year, there will be a presentation every second Saturday from June through September starting at 11:30 a.m. The talks will be about 30 minutes long with extended time for Q&A.
