Learn the basics of living with and managing diabetes in "Dining with Diabetes: A diabetes management and food course," led by Leslie Shallcross, a UAF Cooperative Extension Service health, home and family development agent. Participants will learn health-promoting lifestyle habits and how to plan meals. Each class will include a discussion and a demonstration of healthy cooking for people with diabetes. This class is for individuals with pre-diabetes or diabetes, and their family members.
The course will be held at the University Park Building Room 154, 1000 University Avenue, Fairbanks on Wednesdays from 5:30-7:30 p.m. June 10, 24 and July 1, 8.

Thursdays at the UAF Georgeson Botanical Garden, The first band begins at 6 p.m. the second at 7:30 p.m. Music in the Garden does not cancel due to weather. Statewide: Online Certified Food Protection Manager training
The University of Alaska Fairbanks Cooperative Extension Service will offer a certified food protection manager training on Tuesday, July 7, with a proctor for testing available in Fairbanks. A certified food protection manager is responsible for ensuring that a food establishment complies with regulations. State regulations require that all such facilities have at least one certified food protection manager on staff. Participants are encouraged to register for the training as early as possible in order to receive the study guide ahead of time. The training will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. via Zoom or in person at the Tanana District office in the Community and Technical College building, 604 Barnette St. Fairbanks. Pressure canner dial gauges should be tested every year to ensure they reach the pressure and temperature needed to preserve foods safely. Women are talking freely about menopause and the changes they experience in their bodies and lives. But we need to talk about it early and often! The Georgeson Botanical Garden will hold its annual fundraiser, Wine and Peonies, on Wednesday, July 15, from 5-7:30 p.m.
Spend a sophisticated summer evening wandering through the beautiful blooms of the garden. Guests will enjoy a curated selection of fine wines and delicious hors d'oeuvres while taking guided garden tours. Before the evening concludes, participants will be able to harvest and take home a stunning, fresh bouquet of signature GBG peonies.

Festival Orchestra and Choirs: Sounds of the Summer!

, The Polaris Chamber Choir present nine choral works in celebration of America250 with all American composers and "Americana" works! In celebration of the United States Semiquincentennial, this concert is support through a grant the Alaska State Council for the Arts and the National Endowment of the Arts. Polaris will be conducted by guest artists, Karen Miskell and Donald Brinegar.
The Fairbanks Summer Arts Festival is thrilled to announce the revival of our Festival Orchestra this year, a program that has been dormant since before the COVID pandemic. Works featured on this concert by American composers such as Billings, Lauridsen, Barber and Copland. The Festival Orchestra will be conducted by Fairbanksan, George Rydlinski.
Tickets are $25 General Admission/$15 for Children and Seniors. Performance will be held in the UAF Davis Concert Hall.

Tribute to the Great Jazz Pianists with Ron Drotos,
Tribute to the Great Jazz Pianists is a lively musical journey through the world of jazz, focusing on the legacy of the famous jazz pianists. Pianist Ron Drotos pays tribute to early jazz masters such as Jelly Roll Morton, Lil Hardin Armstrong and Duke Ellington, as well as more contemporary jazz innovators including Bud Powell, Dave Brubeck and Chick Corea. Listeners will hear fun anecdotes and interesting historical facts about each pianist and musical numbers include James P. Johnson’s The Charleston, Keith Jarrett’s Memories of Tomorrow, and Bill Evans’ Peace Piece. Drotos himself studied with the legendary jazz pianist Billy Taylor and will share personal anecdotes from their time together, including Taylor’s memories of the astonishing Art Tatum.

Composing in the Wilderness with CORVUS
Come hear the Fairbanks Summer Arts Festival's premier new music ensemble, CORVUS, perform the works created by registrants in our 2025 edition of Composing in the Wilderness.
Young composers from all over the world come to study with Stephen Lias, as he leads them through a contemplative process of composition, inspired by a week long journey through the wilds of Denali National Park. Through that process, and inspired by the majesty and greatness of the Alaskan wilderness, composers write for our new music ensemble, CORVUS, to play.
Scored for violin, flute, clarinet/saxophone, 'cello, and percussion, these professional orchestral players from around the country (many with direct ties to Fairbanks themselves) assemble in Fairbanks for festival to rehearse these nature inspired works for the stage. Oktoberfest Panel Discussion
Kick off UAF Oktoberfest with an exploration of the festival’s origins and cultural traditions. Faculty and community experts will discuss the history of Oktoberfest, the music, art and politics of early 19th-century Bavaria, and the role of brewing in the region. The event will also feature a discussion of beer production and brewing culture led by HooDoo Brewing Co. brewmaster Bobby Wilken. The panel is free and open to the public.
