Webinar: Selecting Lilacs for Your Yard

Join horticulturist Julie Riley for a presentation highlighting lilacs in Southcentral Alaska and learn which lilacs are best suited for your yard. Julie's talk will also include suggestions on why your lilac doesn't bloom and a few tips on pruning. The adage, "right plant for the right place," holds true when it comes to planting lilacs. Do you want a plant that will stay short, or one that you can see blooming out of your second-story window? Do you want the deepest purple flower color or burgundy fall foliage? Riley was a horticulture agent with the University of Alaska Fairbanks Cooperative Extension Service for over 35 years. During this time, she worked with home gardeners, community gardeners and the commercial horticulture industry in both Anchorage and Fairbanks. In 2019, she taught a course on lilacs and has been trying to figure out how to identify lilac species/cultivars based on flower type, leaf shape, form and suckering habit. If you have a beautiful lilac in your front yard, you might… Categories: Public events calendar - Fairbanks, Cooperative Extension calendar, Anchorage CES calendar, Bethel CES calendar, Bristol Bay/Dillingham CES calendar, Delta Junction CES calendar, Southeast CES calendar, Kenai/Soldotna CES calendar, Kodiak CES calendar, Mat-Su/Copper River CES calendar, Northwest/Nome CES calendar, Sitka CES calendar, Fairbanks/Tanana CES calendar.
