Webinar: Houseplants That Thrive
Heidi Rader will lead a webinar about houseplants, which help Alaskans get their gardening fix in the winter. Learn about which plants are easy and which are finicky as well as some ideas on helping managing houseplants while you travel. She will discuss edible, tropical plants as well.
Rader, professor of Extension, directs the Alaska Tribes Extension program, which promotes food sovereignty and security throughout Alaska. She teaches virtual and hands-on workshops on health, wellness, food, and gardening. She partners with Tribes and traditional knowledge holders to offer tribally driven outreach. Heidi has filmed over 70 videos for a series called In the "Alaska Garden with Heidi Rader" and writes the blog, "It Grows in Alaska."

Alaska Homemade Food Regulations
In 2024, the Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation made significant changes to its cottage food industry rules, which are now called the homemade food exemption. Sarah Lewis, a University of Alaska Fairbanks Cooperative Extension Service health, home and family development agent, will explain the changes in a workshop during the Alaska Food Policy Council meeting of the Alaska Food Systems Network.
