Girls’ Voices from Kampala, Uganda

Social Justice, Equity, and Inclusion Center This session foregrounds the lived experiences of girls from Kampala, Uganda, examining how gender, poverty, and structural barriers shape access to education and participation in social change. Through a short documentary and live storytelling, participants will engage directly with narratives of schooling, hardship, aspiration, and resilience. Visual media depicting daily life in Kampala will provide cultural and social context, while representatives from the Uganda Rural Women’s Initiative (URWI) will discuss community-based strategies that support girls’ education and women’s empowerment. The session emphasizes dialogue, reflection, and ethical global engagement, concluding with a facilitated discussion and call to action. Community Research Grounded in Justice

Destigmatizing Addiction

Social Justice, Equity, and Inclusion Center This panel centers addiction as both a public health issue and a social justice issue, inviting participants to move beyond stigma and toward collective care, accountability, and action. Grounded in Humboldt County’s lived realities, the session will explore how communities can move together to dismantle harmful narratives about substance use while uplifting harm reduction, trauma-informed responses, and culturally responsive prevention strategies. How We Protect One Another

Social Justice, Equity, and Inclusion Center This interactive workshop embodies the Summit theme Moving Together: Expression in Action by framing overdose prevention as a powerful form of community movement and mutual care. Participants will explore how harm reduction practices—such as naloxone administration and fentanyl testing—are not only lifesaving tools but also expressions of solidarity, resistance to stigma, and care-centered justice. (Re)Moving the Nation: The Dance of War

Social Justice, Equity, and Inclusion Center What does it mean to move together when a nation has been shaped by war, displacement, and statelessness? Drawing on ethnographic research with forcibly displaced Tai (Shan) communities along the Thai–Myanmar border, this session explores how dance, song, and performance sustain social cohesion, express resistance, and cultivate aspirations for justice. Introducing the concept of aesthetic nationalism, the talk highlights how collective movement can remake a sense of nationhood through shared rhythm and embodied connection. Participants will also engage in a brief, accessible movement exercise to experience how coordinated motion fosters solidarity and collective awareness. Creating Bridges of Belonging

Social Justice, Equity, and Inclusion Center The Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, in partnership with multiple organizations and members of our community, developed a two-year-long consultative process to design its Institutional Anti-Racism Action Plan. This process demonstrated the power of community-driven engagement and co-created knowledge in advancing anti-racism efforts. By embracing reflective practice and valuing the situated knowledge of campus members, the initiative has laid a foundation for sustained, long-term impact on institutional culture. Moving Together

Social Justice, Equity, and Inclusion Center This session highlights student work from CD 352: Parent–Child Relationships, exploring identity, belonging, and respect through creative expression. Through visual displays and interactive activities, students invite participants to reflect on how family, culture, and lived experiences shape identity and relationships. Featured projects include “I Am From” poems, which explore identity through family and place, and “My Name, My Identity,” emphasizing the importance of honoring names as acts of dignity and inclusion. A facilitated reflection activity will also encourage participants to examine and challenge assumptions to foster more equitable and respectful relationships. ODEI Institutional Progress Report

Social Justice, Equity, and Inclusion Center This 90-minute interactive workshop invites participants to help shape a reimagined Institutional Progress Report for our campus. Rather than presenting a completed report, the session creates space for dialogue, shared sense-making, and multiple entry points for contribution. Participants will review selected data already collected across key areas of campus life and engage in guided activities to reflect on what the data reveals, what may be missing, and what stories are not yet being told. The session is designed to surface the work happening across campus to support students, staff, and faculty, while also identifying gaps, questions, and opportunities for stronger coordination and transparency. This workshop emphasizes co-creation. Participants are invited to contribute insights, questions, and context that help interpret the data and guide future reporting. Holi, also known as the "Festival of Colors," is a Hindu festival that celebrates the arrival of spring, along with the triumph of good over evil, and lastly the divine love between Radha and Krishna! What better way to celebrate than with some delicious snacks, music, dancing, many games such as finding the coin, a color scavenger hunt, coin-stacking (you can even win prizes while supplies last), and make friendship bracelets, get mehndi, lotus flower potting, and more! Of course, we also couldn't forget the main event, the color powder throwing, so be sure to wear white when you come, or get a white t-shirt that we give away this year (limited supplies)!
