Join us for a unique, tide-dependent adventure paddling down the Eureka Slough, a saltwater slough within Humboldt Bay. This tranquil, flat-water paddle offers the opportunity to connect with nature while learning basic kayaking techniques. Join the Cal Poly Humboldt Library in celebrating Banned Books Week with a Banned Books Read Out on Thursday, October 9, 12-1:30pm in the main lobby of the Library. Read a passage from a book that has been banned, challenged, or censored! Bring a book of your choosing or select a book from a cart filled with banned books. Paddle Strokes
This class is a perfect extension of our Introduction to Sea Kayaking course, as well as a great opportunity for already experienced kayakers to get more information from our highly skilled instructors. Our ACA certified guides will either fit you to one of our sea kayaks or can assist you in personal equipment.
This class is designed for kayakers looking to improve their paddle strokes for maximum boat handling and the ability to control their kayak. This session will improve your kayaking speed, maneuverability, and comfort. Our expert staff will introduce edging to enhance boat handling skills, and bracing to prevent capsizes and build your confidence.

Dr. Orisamni Burton is an Associate Professor of Anthropology at American University in Washington D.C. As a social anthropologist, Dr. Burtons research "examines the imbrication of grassroots resistance and state repression. Within this broad area of inquiry, my present work explores the collision of Black-led movements for social, political, and economic transformation with state infrastructures of militarized policing, surveillance, and imprisonment.".
