Intro to Sea Kayaking

Get started with sea kayaking on beautiful Humboldt Bay!    This hands-on course covers the basics of paddling technique, water safety, and boat handling. Under the guidance of expert ACA instructors, you’ll learn how to handle a sit-inside sea kayak, practice essential strokes and bracing, and develop your paddling skills on the water.    Whether you’re a beginner or looking to improve your kayaking technique, this is the perfect introduction to a rewarding outdoor activity. Intro to Buddhism: Lecture and Q&A with Graham!    When: Monday, April 21st, 3:00 PM  Where: Green & Gold Room, Founders Hall 166     Who's Graham? Graham met the Wishfulfilling Jewel, the 16th Karmapa at Rumtek Monastery in 1979 and began practicing Dharma. Graham received transmissions and teachings from many realized Tibetan Buddhist Masters. Foremost among those are Kyabje Tulku Urgyen Rinpoche and Kyabje Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche and Kyabje Tulku Urgyen Rinpoche’s sons. He spent many years at Nagi Gompa in Nepal, practicing under the guidance of Kyabje Tulku Urgyen Rinpoche. He was the meditation instructor at Rangjung Yeshe Institute in Nepal for 5 years and was a founding member of Rangjung Yeshe Gomde California where he worked for 10 years. Graham has spent some years in retreat in Nepal and the USA. The Phoenix of Gaza XR is a virtual gateway to pre-destruction Gaza. This extended reality project features hundreds of videos and images of daily activities in Gaza taken with a 360-degree camera. The vast majority of the locations captured are historical places in the Gaza Strip before they were destroyed (about 80% of the Gaza Strip has been destroyed since October 7, 2023). The Phoenix of Gaza XR, with its 360-degree documentation of a land scarred by destruction, includes images and videos of historical monuments, cultural sites, public squares, universities, schools, cafes, streets, agricultural areas, parks, beaches, markets, and amusement places. This virtual tour also connects audiences to Palestinian culture through footage of weddings, stitching workshops, dabke (traditional dance), palm harvesting, clay and pottery making, and the work of other artisans. Scaling Our Energy Future

The final speaker in this semester's Climate and Clean Energy Series is Carla Peterman, Executive Vice President, Corporate Affairs and Chief Sustainability Officer for PG&E Corporation. At PG&E, she oversees the company’s regulatory, legislative, sustainability, and charitable strategies. Peterman has spent her career in several senior-level government and utility roles focused on California’s clean energy future. Peterman holds a PhD in energy and resources from the University of California, Berkeley, and MS and MBA degrees from Oxford University, where she was a Rhodes Scholar.
