This course offers students the opportunity to safely learn and enjoy the sport of surfing! Designed for the individual having little to no surfing experience, this course focuses on water safety, surf etiquette, ocean awareness, surfboard handling and technique. Join us for a unique, tide-dependent adventure paddling down the Eureka Slough, a saltwater slough within Humboldt Bay. This tranquil, flat-water paddle offers the opportunity to connect with nature while learning basic kayaking techniques. Our experienced guides will provide fascinating insights into the rich history, culture, and ecology of this special area. Along the way, you’ll have the chance to spot a variety of wildlife, including migratory shorebirds, egrets, herons, raptors, and harbor seals.
No kayaking experience is required—our guides will teach you everything you need to know to enjoy the paddle safely. This is the perfect way to explore the natural beauty of Humboldt, right in our backyard!

Paddle Strokes
This class is a perfect extension of our Introduction to Sea Kayaking course, as well as a great opportunity for already experienced kayakers to get more information from our highly skilled instructors. Our ACA certified guides will either fit you to one of our sea kayaks or can assist you in personal equipment.
This class is designed for kayakers looking to improve their paddle strokes for maximum boat handling and the ability to control their kayak. This session will improve your kayaking speed, maneuverability, and comfort. Our expert staff will introduce edging to enhance boat handling skills, and bracing to prevent capsizes and build your confidence.
