Literature Lounge in the Library
Learn how to find literature (fiction, poetry, etc.) in the Cal Poly Humboldt Library.
You may be familiar with our popular reading selection in the Lobby, but we have many other stories to read in our stacks upstairs. Unlike the public library, we use a different system to organize our books, the Library of Congress Classification. Learn more about how the Library is organized, where to find the Literature section, and spend a little time reading a book you find. If we don’t have what you are looking for we’ll help you request it or find it elsewhere!
Kimberly Stelter, the First-Year Experience & Student Success Librarian will be there to help you find what you are looking for and help you start your summer reading journey. Drop-in on this session from noon-2pm (you can stay for as little or as long as you’d like).

Mentoring Youth in Community Research
Young people globally are increasingly engaged in addressing socio-economic problems. At the same time, many of the organizing strategies have focused on mobilizing constituencies such as; environmentalists, people of color or LGBTQ+ groups. Unfortunately, less consideration has been given to allowing more time for young people to self-identify what is important to them.
When nurturing more people to participate in civic engagement, especially at the local level, it is essential to ground that process in allowing each participant to ask themselves, “what specific issues most impact me and my community?” Not surprisingly, when given the opportunity, most find answers while discussing similar challenges with other young people who are unafraid to question the social conditions they find themselves in.
