When World War II broke out, the United States government using armed military guards forced Sam, age 9, and his family to move to the Heart Mountain, Wyoming prison camp. It was one of 10 such camps in the country that together housed over 120,000 West Coast residents of Japanese ancestry, most of them U.S.-born American citizens.  An engineer and an executive, Mihara worked for more than 40 years for Boeing before retiring in 1997. In 2011, he began devoting his time to speaking publicly about his own experience and topics of mass injustice in the U.S. that include the proliferation of detention facilities for undocumented immigrants. Today, at 90-years-young, Sam is the only camp survivor who tours nationally and internationally speaking about this dark time in our history. Over 90,000 people have heard Sam’s story detailing the difficulties he, his family and other Japanese Americans faced before, during… Event Title: WW II Japanese Concentration Camp Survivor - Sam Mihara.
