Mariachi Arcoiris de Los Angeles
GCC Pride Week 2024,
Mariachi Arco•Iris de Los Angeles, or The Los Angeles Rainbow Mariachi (in English), is the world's first LGBTQ+ mariachi. A unique and dynamic ensemble representing the traditions of the rich culture of Mexico, this group was created as a haven for mariachi musicians who identify as LGBTQ+ to come together and perform traditional Mexican regional music in an otherwise “machista” and discriminating subculture of the mariachi world.
The members will share how they came together through their identities and shared passion of mariachi as well as perform.

Drag is not only a part of the LGBTQ+ community's history but also an art form onto itself. The diverse and storied history of drag was recorded in the documentary The Queen which covers a 1967 drag pageant. Drag: A History by Jean Decay

Jean Decay’s Drag History presentation covers various important moments in the 150 year history of drag in the United States. The presentation gives a general guide to understanding drag history and the communities and people that make it such a unique art form.
Jean Decay is a Los Angeles based drag performer who has been doing drag for 9 years. On top of performing across the west coast, Jean is a writer and dedicated to keeping Drag history alive.

Safe-Zone Training: Level 3
The goal of the GCC Safe Zone training is to support staff and faculty in realizing their importance and influence in creating a safe campus community that is accepting and supportive of all gender and sexual identities in order to support student learning.
In Safe Zone Level 2, participants will further their understanding of:
Personal pronouns, their importance, and why they are used;

Staff, faculty, students, administrators, and community members (i.e. high school students, parents, etc.) can participate. Participants will pick up their finisher prize at the Student Center. We can make it a celebration with food and music. Participants can complete their steps/miles anywhere they see fit (treadmill, track, around your neighborhood, etc.). They can track their steps/miles using a device (Fitbit, Apple Watch, phone, etc.). To support LATINX students by creating awareness for their unique needs. We should add a list of benefits for walking, running, and being active on a landing page.
