HRC Movie Night

Paris is Burning (1990) is a documentary showcasing the real life experience of black and Latine trans and queer people as they navigate New York City in the 1980s. The trans identity in the 60s up till now was not recognized or fully embraced by the queer community - because of this trans and drag performers created an underground world of their own through ballroom culture. This film serves as an exposure to students to the world of vogue and ballroom, as well as vital moments in queer history that we want to highlight during LGBTQ history month. Area One Drunk Driving education event

Area One residential advisors will collaborate with the University Police Department for an educational, yet entertaining event for first-year college students about the dangers of drunk driving. UPD will have a brief presentation for students on the dangers of drunk driving and ways to identify the signs of a drunk driver (either in peers or on the road). Following the presentation, students will be invited to play a game of Mario Kart with a pair of beer goggles provided by the University police to demonstrate the reality of how impaired you are when driving under the influence.  . Cafecito con Cars

Cafecito con Cars, will take place on October 25th from 10 AM-2 PM in Lot 72. Cars can begin rolling in at 9 AM. In celebration of HSI Week, it is planned as a car show to feature lowriders, and other custom cars. Coffee and conchas will be available. The event will feature live music, and display interviews from the CSUMB Central Coast Lowrider Oral History Project. A map of the requested Lot 72 is available.  The event will be similar to Salinas Cars and Coffee, a fairly informal car show, where students will chat with car owners. Please join the Global Studies and Ethnic and Gender Studies programs for the second annual Ethnic and Global Studies Film Series for a screening of the 2025 documentary Everything You Have Is Yours, followed by a discussion and audience Q&A with the film’s producer Brighid Greene and CSUMB Associate Professor of Global Studies Sara Salazar Hughes. Greene is a film and dance artist who grew up on the Monterey Peninsula and now lives in Queens, NY.
