BlaqOUT Meetings
BlaqOut aims to provide a safe and affirming space for building community and fostering conversations for and by Black members of the LGBTQIA2+ communities. Too often, Black voices are overlooked in queer spaces, leaving us as afterthoughts in predominantly white environments. BlaqOut seeks to change this by creating connections among queer Black students, highlighting issues that disproportionately affect Black communities, and celebrating queer figures of African descent and their contributions to society. We also explore how this identity intersects with religion, family, the experience at CSUMB, and in political spaces.

Ukraine Updates - Ambassador William T.
The former U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine, William B. Taylor will give a 30 minute presentation on the current status of events in Ukraine followed by a question and answer session. Drawing on his extensive experience in Ukraine, Ambassador Taylor will assess the consequences of the war in Ukraine, the path toward a durable peace, and diplomatic efforts to end it. He will also discuss what the war means for Europe’s security and the United States’ leadership. William Taylor is a Distinguished Fellow with the Atlantic Council’s Eurasia Center in Washington, D.C. Prior to the Atlantic Council, Taylor was Vice President, Europe and Russia, at the U.S. Institute of Peace. In addition to a number of appointments at the U.S. Department of State in Washington, he has also served in Jerusalem, Baghdad, and Kabul. After serving as U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine 2006 – 2009 he later returned to Kyiv to serve as charge’ d’affaires from 2019-2020. HRC Movie Night
Paris is Burning (1990) is a documentary showcasing the real life experience of black and Latine trans and queer people as they navigate New York City in the 1980s. The trans identity in the 60s up till now was not recognized or fully embraced by the queer community - because of this trans and drag performers created an underground world of their own through ballroom culture. This film serves as an exposure to students to the world of vogue and ballroom, as well as vital moments in queer history that we want to highlight during LGBTQ history month. As well as fostering conversation afterwards.

Area One Drunk Driving education event
Area One residential advisors will collaborate with the University Police Department for an educational, yet entertaining event for first-year college students about the dangers of drunk driving. UPD will have a brief presentation for students on the dangers of drunk driving and ways to identify the signs of a drunk driver (either in peers or on the road). Following the presentation, students will be invited to play a game of Mario Kart with a pair of beer goggles provided by the University police to demonstrate the reality of how impaired you are when driving under the influence.

The AAC fair is a free community event dedicated to raising awareness and educating people about Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC). During the AAC Fair, two inspiring speakers will share their AAC journey and expertise.
