A Silent Voice (2016), Anime Movie Night
The Anime Club@CSUMB invites you to join us for the long awaited, very special film screening of A Silent Voice (2016) an award-winning film directed by Naoko Yamada. This is a film that the club has been trying to share with the campus for several years and we are so excited to finally bring it to Cal State Monterey Bay as part of the 8th Annual Festival of Languages, Cultures and Ideas.
After transferring into a new school, a deaf girl, Shoko Nishimiya, is bullied by the popular Shoya Ishida. As Shoya continues to bully Shoko, the class turns its back on him. Shoko transfers and Shoya grows up as an outcast. Alone and depressed, the regretful Shoya finds Shoko to make amends. “A Silent Voice” is a moving coming-of-age drama that depicts the struggles of adolescence through its memorable characters and beautiful animation. Common Ground, Sip, Sit, Stay (or Go), Common Ground is series of pop-ins for busy students who want a quick break, a snack, and a little connection. Stop by the Crescent at the library between classes (11am to 2pm) to grab a drink or bite, try a simple creative activity, and hang out for as long (or as little) as you want. Both the food and the activities are low-commitment. Grab and go if you’re in a rush, or stay and craft if you have time. No sign-ups. No experience needed. Each session we will be co-hosting with a different campus department, making it an easy, low-key way to meet people, learn about campus resources, and feel more connected—especially for commuter students or anyone short on time.

VPA Visiting Artists Series: Julio Cesar
Visiting artist Julio Cesar Morales explores migration, underground economies, and labor on both personal and global scales. He works by whatever means necessary: in a series of watercolor illustrations, Morales diagramed means of human trafficking in passenger vehicles, while in other projects, he employed the DJ turntable, neon signs, the historical reenactment of a famous meal, or the conventions of an artist-run gallery to explore social interaction and political perspectives.

CSUMB’s College of Arts, Humanities & Social Sciences, Visual Arts & Music Department (Music Program), and Palenke Arts proudly present Rhythms of Resistance, a live performance that showcases the full range of La Mezcla repertoire with live musicians and dancers. The concert features Tap Dance, Son Jarocho (music and Dance from Veracruz, MX) and Afro Caribbean rhythms, highlighting excerpts of our productions Ghostly Labor and Pachuquísmo, company tap dance repertoire and traditional Son Jarocho sones (songs that include footwork as percussion). The La Mezcla Concert is an adaptable high quality dance and music performance that provides cultural context to the forms, and rhythmic activities that engage with audience members.

Practice yoga under black lights- GLOWGA! Join OtterCare for Community Yoga in the OSU Ballroom! Having your mental, physical, and social-emotional well-being fed is a basic need too! Common Ground, Sip, Sit, Stay (or Go), Common Ground is series of pop-ins for busy students who want a quick break, a snack, and a little connection. Stop by the Crescent at the library between classes (11am to 2pm) to grab a drink or bite, try a simple creative activity, and hang out for as long (or as little) as you want. Both the food and the activities are low-commitment. Grab and go if you’re in a rush, or stay and craft if you have time. No sign-ups. No experience needed.
