CRE@TLA Summer Academy 3.o

Three days of keynotes, intensive workshops, and connections with colleagues from K-12 schools from the tri-county area and two and four-year colleges. Presenters will re-center educators on the task of using established pedagogical practice to increase the learning capacity of students as they are prepared to excel in high school and college. SI25 ULO Assessment Series

Synthesis is a high-level cognitive activity that may be challenging for students to apply in their academic work because it requires them to combine information from multiple sources to form something new. Help students become more skillful writers through the components of this track: an exploration of strategies for introducing synthesis to students, planning in-class activities to get students synthesizing, creating assignments that require synthesis, using a rubric to evaluate student work or to guide instruction, and scaffolding synthesis into academic programs. SI25 Trauma-Informed Pedagogy Course

This certificate course equips faculty with the knowledge and skills to implement trauma-informed teaching practices that foster student resilience, engagement, and academic success. Participants will explore the impact of trauma on learning, apply trauma-sensitive strategies, and develop a classroom environment to promote well-being and equity, with self-care practices to prevent faculty burnout and compassion fatigue. SI25 STEM Reading Apprenticeship (RA)

Description: Reading Apprenticeship is a framework used in college and university settings to enhance student reading comprehension and literacy skills, particularly in academic disciplines. It emphasizes a partnership between students and instructors, building upon existing strengths and developing disciplinary-specific reading strategies.  This STEM RA learning community will provide a foundational, hands-on experience for STEM faculty who want to empower and engage students with tools and routines for metacognitive conversation and disciplinary success. Facilitators: Associate Professor Corin Slown, Bio/Chem; CLC Science Learning Coordinator and Lecturer Erin Stanfield, Bio/Chem and Applied Environmental Science (summer); and TLA Teaching and Learning Specialist and Lecturer Rebecca Kersnar (fall).
