SI26 - Track 4: Financial Literacy

Curious how you can support your students’ financial literacy and empowerment without adding significant work to your plate? Wondering what resources already exist at CSUMB? Join this interactive training to explore CSUMB’s new student self-paced Financial Literacy and Empowerment Canvas course and how it can be easily integrated into your own coursework. Through guided activities, peer discussion, and practical examples, you’ll be introduced to the self-paced student course and workshop, offering real ways to embed these practices into your class across disciplines. SI26 - Track 6: Improving Relationships

Strong relationships are central to faculty well-being. In the wake of recent on-campus incidents of racist graffiti that has harmed the campus community, this track supports participants in building skills for meaningful dialogue focused on race, equity, and accountability in higher education. Participants will complete eight asynchronous modules exploring topics such as positionality, navigating discomfort, listening and dialogue skills, racism in higher education, allyship, and accountability. This track emphasizes reflection, personal storytelling, and practical strategies. Facilitators: Otters in Dialogue Team (Mridula Mascarenhas, Jenn Lovell, & Vivian Waldrup-Patterson), Deliverables: Completion of modules, reflective activities, accountability plan, and the SI26 Reflection. SI26 - Track 2: Embracing Mindfulness

In this track, faculty will support themselves and one another with techniques to increase awareness and self-compassion as they restore energy, cultivate mental clarity and flow, build emotional resilience, and renew a sense of purpose. This experience will give participants a chance to build and test wellness practices for implementation in the fall semester. Facilitator: Carolynn Schaut, Certified Mindfulness Instructor, Deliverables: Active participation, Wellness Plan, and the SI26 Reflection. This certificate course equips faculty with the knowledge and skills to implement trauma-informed teaching practices that foster student resilience, engagement, and academic success. Participants will explore the impact of trauma on learning, apply trauma-sensitive strategies, and develop a classroom environment that promotes well-being and equity, including self-care practices to prevent faculty burnout and compassion fatigue. Facilitator: Associate Professor Christine Valdez, Psychology, Deliverables: Preparation and active participation in the Canvas course (includes syllabus revision and brief self-care plan), discussion, and the SI26 Reflection. SI26 - Track 3: PPSR

This course equips instructors with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to integrate Undergraduate Learning Outcome 2 (ULO2), which focuses on personal, professional, and social responsibility (PPSR), into their courses across disciplines. It is particularly valuable for instructors teaching courses that address social and ethical responsibility, including service-learning courses. Participants will first explore PPSR by familiarizing themselves with its rubric and core concepts and terminology. Next, they will learn how to create effective assignments by reviewing concrete examples across disciplines before designing their own assignment. Facilitators: Associate Professor Hojin Song, Humanities and Communication, Assistant Professor Arun Jani, Biology, Agriculture, and Chemistry, Assistant Professor Kayce Mastrup, Education and Leadership, and Assistant Professor Steven Machek, Kinesiology.
