Overcast

Overcaste is one of first exhibits in North America dedicated to the voices and resistance of caste oppressed communities in Punjabi and Sikh communities. Curated by Poetic Justice Foundation, the exhibit features oral histories, photographs, timelines, archival and historical materials that bring to light the ongoing realities of caste apartheid, resistance, and resilience in the South Asian diaspora. While caste discrimination is often minimized as outdated or distant, Overcaste challenges this erasure by centering diasporic stories of caste oppression in present-day British Columbia, Canada. Rooted in Dalit feminist leadership, the exhibit is both a powerful visual installation and an educational tool, bridging academic research with community knowledge. Overcaste is a vital resource for educators, researchers, and students, supplementing curriculum across Asian American Studies, Ethnic and Racial Studies, South Asian Studies, Gender and Sexuality Studies, and more. Saturday, January 24, 2026. Jane B. Aron Art Center 123 - Slide Space Gallery.
