Lunchtime Artist Talk - Charlie Rugg
Community-wide Events Calendar
Join us in the Ceramics Studio, room 7103 on the SLO campus for pizza and salad and an artist talk with visiting artist Charlie Rugg. Charlie currently has a solo exhibition of paintings at the SLO Museum of Art. Charlie Rugg is an abstract and portrait oil painter based in San Luis Obispo, California. His first career in professional soccer originally brought him from Boston to California, where he spent three years with the LA Galaxy followed by a year and a half playing for two clubs in Germany. He maintained a relationship with painting throughout his playing career, focusing mainly on oil portraits, but since retiring from soccer, he’s moved on to work in both design and oil painting. Charlie often loosely structures his abstract work in pattern, allowing some elements to interact freely as a piece takes form. He parallels this process of contained freedom to the nature of emergent systems and the feeling behind the life-like characters that they become.
