avery r. young is an interdisciplinary artist and educator. He is a poetry editor for Bridge, and a recipient of the 3Arts Award (2012), Chicago's Inaugural Poet Laureate 2023-2025), American Poet Laureate Fellow (2024), and Walder's Foundation Platform (2024) awardee. His art practice spans, curation, written, and performance works including visual text and sound design featured nationally and internationally. He is currently performing at the Chicago Lyric Opera House with an Afro-surrealist tale told in blues, funk, gospel and soul.

avery r. young is an interdisciplinary artist and educator. He is a poetry editor for Bridge, and a recipient of the 3Arts Award (2012), Chicago's Inaugural Poet Laureate 2023-2025), American Poet Laureate Fellow (2024), and Walder's Foundation Platform (2024) awardee. His art practice spans, curation, written, and performance works including visual text and sound design featured nationally and internationally. He is currently performing at the Chicago Lyric Opera House with an Afro-surrealist tale told in blues, funk, gospel and soul.

The Lake County Symphony Orchestra closes its 2025–26 season with a program that spans folk traditions, jazz flair, and Romantic symphonic depth. Percy Grainger’s Green Bushes opens the evening with lively folk-inspired energy, followed by Artie Shaw’s swinging Clarinet Concerto, a tour de force for soloist and orchestra.
