Praised for his “impressive refinement, eloquent phrasing, and singing tone” by The New York Times, American cellist Matthew Zalkind regularly performs throughout the United States and abroad as a recitalist, soloist and chamber musician. Zalkind was awarded First Prize in the Washington International Competition, as well as top prizes in the Beijing International Cello Competition and Korea’s Isang Yun Gyeongnam International Competition. Pianist Damien Krzyzek joined the collaborative piano staff at Lamont in 2022. Damien has performed with members of the Boston Symphony, the Saint Louis Symphony, the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, and the Borromeo and Verona Quartets. A Tribute to Chick Corea,
Chick Corea, widely recognized as one of the most influential figures in jazz, was a pianist, composer, and bandleader. He was a pioneer of jazz fusion, blending jazz with rock, classical, and Latin music, and was a key member of Miles Davis's band during the late 1960s, contributing to the birth of the fusion movement. Throughout his career, Corea won 23 Grammy Awards and composed numerous iconic works, including "Spain" and "La Fiesta."

Don’t miss this performance by Lamont’s most popular piano duo! Colorado pianist and composer Rachael Hutchings’s recent performances feature both standard classical repertoire and her own compositions. She appears regularly as a guest artist, visiting lecturer, and collaborative pianist. Hukum Singh Khalsa has been playing piano for 35 years, having studied with Larry Graham at CU Boulder. He studied accompaniment and chamber music with Dr. Robert Spillman and harpsichord, Renaissance and Baroque music with Dr. Elizabeth Farr.

Linda Wang and Friends: A String Centennial Celebration through the Centuries,
Linda Wang has been praised by critics for her “world-class artistry,” “masterful technique” and “singing jubilant tone.” Since her debut with Zubin Mehta and the New York Philharmonic at the age of nine, she has performed concerti with over seventy-five orchestras and maintains a worldwide presence as a performer and educator.
In honor of Lamont’s Centenary, she’ll be joined by the full Lamont string faculty for Mendelssohn’s Octet (1825) and Vivaldi’s Four Seasons (1725).

Zoe Weiss is a member of Lamont’s musicology faculty and an acclaimed player of the viola da gamba. She is a founding member of the ensembles LeStrange Viols, Science Ficta, and the Folk Baroque Trio. She has also performed with the Oberlin Consort of Viols, the Smithsonian Consort of Viols, the Folger Consort, and ACRONYM. On Baroque and modern double bass, viola da gamba, and violone, David Miller has appeared with groups such as the Handel and Haydn Society, Arcadia Players, Trinity Wall Street, Voices of Music, Music at Marsh Chapel, New York Baroque Incorporated, the Albany Consort, and Seven Times Salt.
The program takes its title from an early English spelling of “passionate,” found in a performance instruction from Tobias Hume.

Basil Vendryes is the Principal Violist of the Colorado Symphony, and is a former member of the San Francisco Symphony, the New York Philharmonic and Rochester Philharmonic orchestras. As a member of the Aurora String Quartet (1986-95) Mr. Vendryes performed recitals in New York, London and Tokyo as well as west coast premieres of works by John Harbison, George Perle, Richard Danielpour, Benjamin Lees and many others. During his forty years at Iowa State University, William David’s primary performance focus was as a founding member of the Ames Piano Quartet. The APQ concertized throughout the United States and internationally in Austria, France, Mexico, Taiwan and South Africa.
