Capstone Scholars: Coffee Connections

Capstone Scholars: Lunch & Learn with Dr. Cory Schnell

Our next Lunch & Learn faculty is Dr. Cory Schnell, an associate professor in the Criminology and Criminal Justice department. Dr. Schnell also serves as the Master's Program director for students interested in Criminology and Criminal Justice. If you have an interest in criminal justice or the judicial system, you should come join us for a FREE lunch at McCutchen House and get to know other Capstone Scholars students, Dr. Elise Lewis (our faculty director) and Dr. Schnell over a nice 3-course meal. We will have 10 students at this lunch and the dress will be business casual. You MUST RSVP for this event and you will receive an email from Julie Boyken a few days prior to the event with more details on dress, arrival time, location, etc. Dr. Schnell’s research aims to advance understanding of where crimes occur within cities. His research focuses on refining descriptions of the micro-spatiotemporal distribution of violent crime patterns. Capstone Scholars: Magic the Gathering

Magic: The Gathering is a trading card game that's very fun to learn and play. If you're looking for a way to learn a new hobby and meet new folks, look no further than a night of Magic with your fellow Capstone Scholars! We have multiple sample decks, so you'll have a spot at the table whether you want to play Commander or just learn the basics! Event will be held in the Capstone Keystone Room. Admission Cost: 0. Capstone Scholars: Service: CommUnity Shop

Join us as we take a trip to the Gamecock CommUnity shop.  The Gamecock CommUnity shop believes that meeting basic needs is crucial for success and offers free food, clothing, and supplies to USC faculty and staff.  The mission of the Gamecock CommUnity shop is to increase accessibility and provide holistic support to individuals experiencing basic needs and insecurities.  In our time at the CommUnity shop, we will be assisting the staff in sorting donations, stocking shelves, and cleaning. Capstone Scholars: Service: Letters Against Isolation

Join us in in the Capstone House Lobby as we write and decorate cards for Letters Against Isolation, a groups that fights senior loneliness by sending handwritten letters to residents of assisted living facilities and nursing homes.  Senior loneliness is a well-documented issue and has effects not only on seniors’ mental health but on their physical health as well.  Through handwritten messages of love, hope, and joy, Letters Against Loliness' volunteer community aims to bring seniors connection and improve their mental and physical health.  We will have all supplies needed to write and decorate the letters, and we hope you will help us fight senior loneliness, one letter at a time!
