Service Event: Letters of Love
Join us for an uplifting afternoon creating and writing cards for Letters of Love (who send them to hospitalized children) in the Capstone House Lobby. Letters of Love's mission is to provide emotional support to children battling serious illnesses through the creation of hand-crafted, heartfelt letters. They aim to build a community of love and kindness, empowering young people to change the world one card at a time. While receiving a card may seem simple, it can be truly impactful for hospitalized kids and their families. We will have all supplies needed to write letters and make the cards - we hope you will get involved and help us in spreading strength & smiles to as many children as possible...Bring all of your friends AND get Capstone Cup Points if you're in a Capstone section of U101!

Service Event: Pawmetto Lifeline
Calling all our Capstone animal Lovers! Join us as we take a trip to serve at Pawmetto Lifeline. Pawmetto Lifeline's mission is to create a community in which no healthy, adoptable pet dies because it is homeless. When Pawmetto Lifeline began in 1999, there were over 26,000 homeless dogs and cats entering municipal shelters in Lexington and Richland Counties. The majority of these pets are healthy, treatable, adoptable pets and yet 96% of these same pets were routinely euthanized due to lack of education and resources. Pawmetto Lifeline is the only organization with a comprehensive plan to solve the problem of homelessness, as it relates to our companion pets, through education, legislation, adoptions and an aggressive spay/neuter program. While serving, we will help these shelter pets in a variety of ways, and we will spend lots of time playing with the animals we are helping! Because this event is off campus, transportation is available through Capstone Scholars if needed.

Service Event: Gamecock CommUnity Shop
Join us as we take a trip to help out a campus partner, the Gamecock CommUnity shop. The Gamecock CommUnity shop believes that meeting basic needs is crucial for success and offers free food, clothing, and supplies to USC faculty and staff. The mission of the Gamecock CommUnity shop is to increase accessibility and provide holistic support to individuals experiencing basic needs and insecurities. In our time at the CommUnity shop, we will be assisting the staff in sorting donations, stocking shelves, and cleaning. The Gamecock CommUnity Shop is located on campus in the Carolina Coliseum.

Service: GlamourGals
Join us in in the Capstone House Lobby as we write letters and decorate cards for GlamourGals, a groups that volunteers at assisted living facilities and nursing homes by giving makeovers to residents, providing conversation and companionship. Senior loneliness is a well-documented issue and has effects not only on seniors’ mental health but on their physical health as well. An astounding 60% of seniors in care do not receive visitors. GlamourGals works to fight senior loneliness by ‘empowering beautiful connections,’ visting care facilities to offer their signature program of beauty makeovers. As part of GlamourGals programming, the group also brings or sends letters and cards to the residents. Through letters and makeovers, GlamourGals community aim to bring seniors connection and improve their mental and physical health. We will have all supplies needed to write and decorate the letters, and we hope you will help us fight senior lonliness, one letter at a time!

Passport Travel Grant Workshop
Thinking of doing a Maymester program in 2027? The Summertime Tuition Travel Grant is a tuition funding opportunity just for Capstone Scholars, and it gives you the opportunity to take $1500 off your tuition bill for any Maymester or Summer study abroad program for 2027. At this workshop, you'll get valuable insights on how to approach the Passport Travel Grant application to maximize your chances at receiving the funding you need. This is a great opportunity to sharpen your writing skills in preparation for applying to study abroad programs too! (Gambrell 429).

Lunch & Learn with Dr. Cory Schnell
Our next Lunch & Learn faculty is Dr. Cory Schnell, an associate professor in the Criminology and Criminal Justice department. Dr. Schnell also serves as the Master's Program director for students interested in Criminology and Criminal Justice. If you have an interest in criminal justice or the judicial system, you should come join us for a FREE lunch at McCutchen House and get to know other Capstone Scholars students and Dr. Schnell over a nice 3-course meal. We will have 10 students at this lunch and the dress will be business casual. Help your fellow Capstone Scholars Keep the Midlands Beautiful as we host a litter pickup at the Saluda Riverwalk (650 Candi Lane, Columbia, SC 29210). Keep the Midlands Beautiful helps protect the environment in Columbia by promoting litter prevention and pickup, while supporting local recycling efforts.
