About This Show
As a member of the Vista Guild, the Koger Center for the Arts partnered with The Jasper Project to open a new rotating art space, titled The Nook, in celebration of Third Thursday Art Night. This month’s featured artist in The Nook is Christopher Lane.
Artist Bio,
Christopher Lane uses fantastic imagery to turn life experiences into visual stories that primarily focus on people and their relationships with one another. Lane is passionate about social justice to protect the environment and inhabitants of our planet, and paints about both as one can’t exist without the other. Employing flora and fauna, his paintings often feature historical, political, or spiritual narratives as he is passionate about these subjects. He is a modern surrealist and storyteller. Each painting can usually be broken down into several scenes yet are cohesive in theme. He uses vivid colors, lush symbolism, and double imagery to illustrate divisive topics, allowing viewers to see them through a new, perhaps…

Arboretum Open House

Take a nature break and bring a friend to USC's wildlife preserve in the heart of Columbia. Open House is the 3rd Sunday of every month, with ecology-themed presentations from faculty and regional experts twice each semester.

Live in the Lobby Jazz: Don Braden - Billy Strayhorn Reimagined
About This Show
Created as a partnership between the Koger Center for the Arts and the ColaJazz Foundation, Live in the Lobby 2025 will consist of seven concerts held throughout the Koger Center facility. Join us to experience this one-of-a-kind series designed for audiences seeking premier jazz and specialty experiences in an exceptional setting.
Don Braden is known around the world as an exciting and interactive jazz soloist, a creative and prolific composer, a passionate and energetic educator and as a specialist at arranging and performing classic popular songs in the modern jazz style.
Having spent years as the saxophonist with greats like Betty Carter, Wynton Marsalis, Freddie Hubbard and Roy Haynes, he has developed an extensive knowledge of every aspect of Jazz performance.
Billy Strayhorn was an American jazz composer, pianist, lyricist, and arranger who collaborated with bandleader and composer Duke Ellington for nearly three decades. His compositions include “Take the ‘A’ Train”…
