Mr. Virzi will discuss, from a practical and largely non-technical perspective, how and why Generative AI makes an excellent legal assistant but a lousy lawyer, pushing back against the fear that AI is threatening to replace lawyers. He will also discuss the ethics of AI from the perspective that the ethics issues surrounding lawyers' use of AI are not new and that existing ethics rules accommodate AI as a legal tool in the same way they have accommodated advances in technology for decades.

Public Interest Law Society - Defining Public Interest Law - Juvenile Advocacy
PILS and the Children's Advocacy Law Society is co-hosting a virtual panel pertaining to juvenile advocacy. This is an especially relevant section of public interest law because the University of South Carolina's law school offers a children's law concentration to all students! The panel will include two attorneys, one trial and one appellate, as well as a Chief District Court Judge, all of whom work in juvenile court. They will answer questions regarding their career path, their day-to-day work environment, and how interested students can learn more. Lunch will be catered, so make sure to arrive early. Moot Court - Ranking Round for Kate Bockman Memorial Competition
The Moot Court Bar invites you to attend the Ranking Round of our annual Kate Bockman Memorial Competition to be held on Sunday, October 14, at 4:00 pm in the KJW Courtroom. Preceding the Ranking Round, our second-year members will compete in a preliminary oral-argument round. The top-eight participants will then proceed to the Ranking Round, which is open for all to view. At the Ranking Round, participants will engage in oral arguments before a panel of judges. The top-four participants will then be selected for the Final Round which will be argued in front of a panel of judges at the South Carolina Court of Appeals. Please come support your fellow classmates on Sunday. For first-year students in particular, this presents a great opportunity to better understand what “Moot Court” is. The Center for American Civic Leadership and Public Discourse is pleased to present “Abraham Lincoln's American Revolution: How the 16th President Would Celebrate the 250th” featuring Professor Allen Guelzo, a leading scholar of American political thought and professor of humanities at the Hamilton School for Classical and Civic Education at the University of Florida.
As the United States celebrates its 250th anniversary, Professor Guelzo will deliver a lecture exploring how President Lincoln understood the American Revolution as the great event of American history from which he drew conclusions about equality, the consent of the governed, and the nature of the revolution itself. The lecture will discuss how Lincoln drew inspiration from the nation’s Founders, which strengthened his resolve that the terrible costs of the Civil War would bring the nation "a new birth of freedom."
