Confronting the Conundrums of Concomitant Substance Use Disorders

CAL PHARM PROFDEV Approach to Treating Patients Presenting With Multiple Substance Use Disorders Drug overdose deaths continue to rise despite continued efforts to reduce the spread of this public health epidemic. Many experts are describing a “fourth wave” of drug overdoses currently happening with the co-ingestion of opioids with stimulants. Increasing numbers of patients are being diagnosed with multiple SUDs. Though few treatments are FDA approved for addiction disorders, clinicians should understand the efficacy and safety data of off-label treatment options, as well as non-pharmacologic treatments which are showing promise in improving health outcomes.
