Join the Lions Gate Trio, Hartt’s trio-in-residence, for a presentation and discussion about piano trios written 300 years apart—works by Joseph Haydn and Kaija Saariaho. Despite historical disparities, both composers found extraordinary ways to create music for piano trio that is both suspended and expansive, spare and sparkling. Come delve into these marvels from our chamber music repertoire. All Hartt chamber students are welcome. Scores will be shared electronically during the seminar, so bring a device if you can. Foot in the Door
Music
Foot in the Door is a mixed ensemble of musicians whose repertoire includes music of established as well as emerging 20th- and 21st-century composers. Members play in a variety of ensemble sizes from small chamber groups to large chamber orchestras. The ensemble has appeared in several of the nation's major cities, and has been heard on Connecticut Public Radio and WNYC-FM and recorded for Opus One and CRI labels. In addition to works by Hartt students, faculty and alumni, the past several seasons have featured music by world-renowned composers including Adams, Bolcom, Berio, Ligeti, Cage, Schoenberg, Schwantner, Reich, Webern, Messiaen, Boulez, and Stravinsky.

Recent works performed include Brahms Symphony no. 1, Schoenberg's Verklärte Nacht, Mendelssohn's Symphony no. 3, Stravinsky's Le sacre du printemps and Strauss's Don Quixote. Foot in the Door is a mixed ensemble of musicians whose repertoire includes music of established as well as emerging 20th- and 21st-century composers. Members play in a variety of ensemble sizes from small chamber groups to large chamber orchestras. The ensemble has appeared in several of the nation's major cities, and has been heard on Connecticut Public Radio and WNYC-FM and recorded for Opus One and CRI labels. Nathan runs a famous floating crap game, and an ongoing plot line involves his quest for a safe place for the game as Adelaide continues her quest to convince him to marry her. Meanwhile, Sarah, mistakenly believing that Sky set up an illegal game at the mission, tries to fight her affection for the charismatic crapshooter.
