“Security Losses, Interbank Markets, and Monetary Policy Transmission: Evidence, from the Eurozone”
Banks that experienced larger losses in their pledgeable securities portfolios following the, July 2022 monetary policy tightening became less able to borrow through the interbank, market and subsequently reduced their corporate lending, regardless of whether the securities were booked at market or historical value. These effects were less pronounced for banks with abundant collateral and for domestic subsidiaries of banking groups, which received liquidity through their group’s internal capital market. Our results highlight a collateral channel in the bank-based transmission of monetary policy and show how differences in banking structure, can contribute to an uneven transmission of monetary policy.

A lecture by Edward Kissi
How did European colonial subjects in Africa see antisemitism during the Holocaust in Europe? This is a salient but rarely asked question in Holocaust and African studies. This lecture examines this crucial question and the lessons it offers for current conversations about antisemitism in the United States. Clearly, the influential newspapers in West and East Africa, from 1933 to 1945, saw the Holocaust in Europe at this period as the outcome of antisemitism. Although their editors differed in their interpretations of the manifestations of antisemitism, they shared a view of the phenomenon as a variant of colonial racism. This fact is evident in how the African press discussed the anti-Jewish and anti-African content of Nazi ideology and European imperial philosophy. For Africans, while antisemitism has a distinct anti-Jewish meaning, it exists in a broader spectrum of ancient prejudices and has a broader implication for global human rights.

“Maintaining the Continuity of Learning in the AI-Driven World”
This is an ONLINE event,
OMSB Seminar - Mariachiara Barzotto | Meeting-Join | Microsoft Teams,
As artificial intelligence (AI) becomes integral to knowledge work, reliance on its opaque,
processes may impede human learning and erode essential expertise developed through experi-, ence. This threatens the continuity of knowledge workers’ professional knowledge. To counterthis, regular knowledge updating is crucial. I propose a comprehensive approach to managinglearning through acquisition, erosion, and discarding. The framework encourages collaborative human–AI knowledge creation, emphasizing the elimination of outdated information while preserving critical knowledge and clarifying AI’s role in sustaining long-term knowledge retention.

Reap What You Sow: Don’t Lose Heart!”
Two act play: Reap What You Sow, Don’t Lose Heart! tells the story of a mother and daughter’s debate about war. Can war ever be just? Jennifer met Sean Golden in an ROTC program at a Jesuit College. He became a Lieutenant Colonel in the US Marines and was killed in Fallujah when their daughter, Ellie, was five. Jennifer, one of the first female fighter pilots in the US Air Force, is now a Major and a drone operator at Creech Air Base in Nevada. When Ellie sees a “die-in” at the front gate, unlike her friends and her mother’s colleagues, who want to kill the deadbeats, she considers the protesters brave, wants to know more, and begins to study history.

“Institutional Trades through Affiliated Brokers”
This is an ONLINE event,
OMSB Seminar - Giuseppe Pratobevera | Meeting-Join | Microsoft Teams,
Using institutional trading data, I find that institutional investors significantly reduce the, trading volume directed to their affiliated brokers after a regulatory change that strengthens, the monitoring of affiliated transactions in the US. The re- duction is driven by large trades, with higher commission fees, which are more likely to be subject to scrutiny. As a result, the overall execution quality and informa- tion content of affiliated institutions’ transactions, deteriorates after the regulation change. Furthermore, stocks that are affected by these large changes become temporarily more volatile. These results indicate that affiliated institutions make costly trading choices to mitigate regulatory risks and shed light on potential unintended consequences of financial regulation.

“The Effects of Regulators’ Press Releases on Employee Whistleblowing”
We examine the effects of regulators’ press releases on employee whistleblowing. As a, setting, we exploit a cutoff rule the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), followed in its press releases about facilities that violated safety regulations. After a press, release, the number of whistleblower tips increases by approximately 12% at nearby facilities, in the same industry. This effect is concentrated in press releases highlighting OSHA’s, whistleblowing program, featuring misconduct reported by whistleblowers, or receiving news, coverage. Further, the effect is concentrated in counties with stronger employee protections and less OSHA monitoring. Additional whistleblower tips lead to more OSHA inspections, more detected violations, and fewer workplace injuries, indicating that these tips improve misconduct detection and deterrence. Taken together, our results indicate that regulators’ press releases enhance the efficacy…
