Daniel Greenwald

“Wealth Inequality with Declining Interest Rates”   US wealth inequality and long-term real interest rates exhibit a strong negative correlation, over the post-war period. We quantify how much of the observed increase in wealth inequality from 1983 to 2023 can be accounted for by the decline in rates. To do so, we combine asset holdings data with asset exposures to interest rates to measure the exposure of households’ portfolios to interest rates. The portfolios of the wealthy have higher interest rate exposure due to a tilt toward equity-like assets with long duration. As a result, wealth inequality increases when rates fall. When we feed in the observed path of real interest rates, we find that this revaluation effect explains the majority of the increase in measured wealth inequality over the past forty years. The Progressives Bible by Dr. Setzer

In her book, The Progressives' Bible: How Scriptural Interpretation Built a More Just America, (Fortress Press, 2024), Claudia Setzer argues that while conservative groups have often appealed to the Bible to support their positions, so too have many progressive voices rooted in the Bible, seeing their struggles in its narratives and characters, and drawing on its verses to prove the truth of their positions. Abolitionism countered pro-slavery arguments with copious biblical material. Women's rights advocates strongly disagreed with one another about whether the Bible was good news for their cause, but some argued that it was. Temperance, a broadly inclusive reform movement in the nineteenth century, employed arguments that reflected a critical, non-literalist stance to the text. Civil rights speakers identified with biblical figures and struggles, infusing their rhetoric with familiar verses. The Progressives' Bible foregrounds women, especially women of color, like Maria Stewart, Septima Clark, and Fannie… Will you order or provide food? TRUE. “Loan Loss Predictability from Macroeconomic Factors”   We examine the extent to which bank loan losses can be predicted by macroeconomic  factors, with a focus on the heterogeneity of the predictability. We develop an easily interpretable dynamic tree-based machine learning model to analyze this construct, which we term net charge-off predictability from macroeconomic factors (NPM). NPM demonstrates considerable cross-sectional and time-series heterogeneity. It generally increases with indicators of credit risk exposure, although its relationship with bank characteristics is often nuanced and non-linear. It rises (declines) during recession (expansionary) periods, indicating that macroeconomic factors are most relevant for predicting loan losses during downturns. In addition, the macroeconomic variables most predictive of future loan losses vary across banks and economic cycles. Exploring its applications, we find that higher NPM during recessions identifies banks that subsequently experience weaker… Categories: Track Attendance / Passport Program. Nonviolent Communication Training

NVC is a form of compassionate communication that can help de-escalate and transform interpersonal, inter-group, workplace, and organizational conflicts. It is used worldwide by individuals, activists, educators, conflict specialists, diplomats, social workers, managers, and others. Practicing NVC can enable us to understand ourselves, our feelings, and our needs more deeply—and open our hearts to better connect and collaborate with others. It creates a path for healing and reconciliation in many settings, including but not limited to intimate relationships, work settings, and academic settings.
