Putsata Reang: Ma and Me A discussion of survival during the Cambodian genocide

Holocaust & Genocide Calendar Ma and Me: A Memoir by Putsata Reang explores the author's complex relationship with her Cambodian refugee mother and cultural expectations. Published in 2022, the memoir details her family's escape from war-torn Cambodia, their life as immigrants in the U.S. and the generational trauma and duty that shaped them, culminating in the painful moment her mother disowned her for marrying a woman. Holocaust & Genocide Calendar Dr. Janet Bond will discuss her text, Little Edna's War: Trapped in the Warsaw Ghetto, Edna’s small frame becomes her family’s unlikely salvation as she slips through crevices in the wall to smuggle food. Each mission is a gamble with death. But when the deportations begin, Edna and her sister must erase every trace of their Jewish identity and reinvent themselves as Catholic orphans on Warsaw’s Aryan side.
