Laura Spong: Timeless

About This Show The Koger Center for the Arts and OTM Gallery are excited to present Laura Spong: Timeless, an exhibit featuring an extensive collection of Spong’s larger-than-life paintings. This exhibit will be on display in the Koger Center’s orchestra level lobby, on the red wall surrounding the exterior of the main performance hall. Laura Spong (1926-2018) was living in the mid-1950s conservative South when she embarked on a journey to prominence in the initially male-dominated painting genre of Abstract Expressionism. In her words, “I love nothing better than to throw paint and lines on a canvas and then solve the problem I have created, the problem being how to pull a coherent painting out of a chaos of lines, shapes and colors. As I solve those problems, I portray my inner journey as I search for a meaning and purpose in life.” Laura was instructed by J. Southern Exposure presents Tessellatum

Musical Feast

Join the Friends of Music for the 2026 Musical Feast! On Feb. 7, the Koger Center for the Arts will come to life while showcasing our students’ talent. Freeman Sundays @3 Concert Series

The USC School of Music’s renowned music faculty performs fresh and vibrant chamber music programs that pair canonical masterpieces with new works. Spend an intimate afternoon with our talented faculty! February’s program features a massive lineup of USC faculty and guest musicians, performing a wide range of musical styles. Lauren Meccia, alto saxophone; Nick Vlandis, piano; Sutton Jenkins, guitar; Wilson Stokes, bass; and Allwyn Edwards, drums, kick off the afternoon with 20 minutes of jazz. Wind Ensemble: Celebration

Cormac Cannon, conductor, Director of Bands Cormac Cannon returns to the podium to lead the Wind Ensemble in their performance at the 48th annual USC Band Clinic. Various international influences come together in a program that will surely be remembered for years to come. Dennis Llinás’ La Chancla is a joyful and thrilling Cuban-inspired work, while Gao Hong’s Celebration brings traditional Chinese pipa music to the wind ensemble. The grand finale, David Maslanka’s epic masterwork Symphony No. 4, will inspire audiences with its dramatic, emotional journey, ending in a setting of the hymn tune “Old Hundred” for organ and wind ensemble. Third Thursday Art Night: Trahern Cook

About This Show As a member of the Vista Guild, the Koger Center for the Arts partnered with The Jasper Project to open a new rotating art space, titled The Nook, in celebration of Third Thursday Art Night. February 2026’s featured artist is Trahern Cook, also known as Easel Cathedral. Artist Biography Trahern also goes by Easel Cathedral; he calls his style Relational and Experiential. Easel Cathedral has coined himself a “Jam Painter” as so much of his subject matter is musicians of every genre playing everywhere from small taverns to large outdoor festivals. In those moments he explores brush strokes and colors matching the rhythm of the sounds being played. As a “Live Painter” of events and weddings, Trahern creates visual stories of his surroundings in his own unique painterly style, marrying a free folk recklessness with a trained and practiced deliberateness. Koger Jazz Heritage Festival: USC Jazz Alumni Concert

USC Jazz and Koger Center for the Arts present the inaugural Koger Jazz Heritage Festival, featuring three days of jazz concerts. The festival kicks off with a celebration of the USC Jazz Studies department on Saturday, February 21, 2026, at 7:30 in the Koger Black Box Theater. Sal Vulcano's "Everything's Fine" Tour

Staten Island native Sal Vulcano is best known for creating and starring in truTV’s long-running hit “Impractical Jokers,” and for “The Misery Index” on TBS. In addition to performing as part of The Tenderloins Comedy Troupe to sold-out arenas, Sal founded the No Presh Network in 2020, hosting “Hey Babe!” and “Taste Buds” podcasts.  Sal’s debut solo comedy special ‘Terrified’ was released in May 2024 on YouTube. Sal also tours with his Impractical Jokers co-stars, selling out countless arenas over the years. Koger Jazz Heritage Festival: Vincent Gardner with USC Jazz Faculty

The second concert of the inaugural Koger Jazz Heritage Festival moves to the Darla Moore School of Business Johnson Performance Hall. Trombonist Vincent Gardner, joined by our illustrious USC Jazz Faculty, performs an exciting program of big band jazz at 3 p.m.  A member of the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, Vincent Gardner has contributed many arrangements to the orchestra. In 2009, he was commissioned by Jazz at Lincoln Center to compose “The Jesse B. Semple Suite,” a 60-minute piece inspired by the short stories of Langston Hughes. Vincent is featured as trombonist on a number of notable recordings and has recorded five CDs as a bandleader for Steeplechase Records. He has performed with The Duke Ellington Orchestra, Bobby McFerrin, Harry Connick, Jr. The Saturday Night Live Band, Chaka Khan, A Tribe Called Quest, and many others. Williams (born November 26, 1937) is an American photographer, publisher, author and inventor who is best known for his photographs documenting the civil rights movement in South Carolina. In 2019, with wife Barbara, and sister Brenda, Cecil created South Carolina’s first and only civil rights museum. Before 12 years of age, his camera had captured the petitioners in Clarendon County as they lit the torch of freedom. In 10th grade, he photographed Thurgood Marshall coming to Charleston for the Briggs case, and again one year later, speaking at Claflin. Chorales Community Collaboration Concert

The USC Chorales are joined by the Sandlapper Singers and Limited Time Only Chamber Choir to present the South Carolina premiere of “We Are Phoenix.”  This new work by composer Timothy Takach calls humankind to draw hope and renewal from the beauty of the earth itself.  Conceived as a collaborative effort for a wide range of singers, Takach’s beautiful and evocative music is accompanied by string orchestra.  The performance will also feature pieces sung by the individual choirs.  This is a ticketed event. USC Symphony Orchestra and Choirs of Carolina: War and Peace
