Religious Liberty and Public Schools: Where Has the Supreme Court Taken Us?
Religious Liberty and Public Schools: Where Has the Supreme Court Taken Us? Ilya Shapiro, Senior Fellow and Director of Constitutional Studies at the Manhattan Institute, will discuss the Supreme Court's evolving approach to religious liberty in public education. The discussion will examine recent developments in First Amendment jurisprudence and what the Court's decisions mean for students, families, religious institutions, and public schools. Mr. Shapiro will be introduced by the Honorable Jay Richardson of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. All students and faculty are invited to attend, regardless of Federalist Society membership. The event will begin at 5:30 PM and is expected to conclude around 6:30 PM.

The Center for American Civic Leadership and Public Discourse is pleased to present “I, Too, Sing America: The Black Affirmation of American Independence" a special event in recognition of 2026 Constitution Day featuring Professor Lucas Morel from Washington & Lee University.

Moot Court - Ranking Round for Kate Bockman Memorial Competition
The Moot Court Bar invites you to attend the Ranking Round of our annual Kate Bockman Memorial Competition to be held on Sunday, October 14, at 4:00 pm in the KJW Courtroom. Preceding the Ranking Round, our second-year members will compete in a preliminary oral-argument round. The top-eight participants will then proceed to the Ranking Round, which is open for all to view. At the Ranking Round, participants will engage in oral arguments before a panel of judges. The top-four participants will then be selected for the Final Round which will be argued in front of a panel of judges at the South Carolina Court of Appeals. Please come support your fellow classmates on Sunday. For first-year students in particular, this presents a great opportunity to better understand what “Moot Court” is. Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions.

Abraham Lincoln's American Revolution: How the 16th President Would Celebrate the 250th
The Center for American Civic Leadership and Public Discourse is pleased to present “Abraham Lincoln's American Revolution: How the 16th President Would Celebrate the 250th” featuring Professor Allen Guelzo, a leading scholar of American political thought and professor of humanities at the Hamilton School for Classical and Civic Education at the University of Florida.
As the United States celebrates its 250th anniversary, Professor Guelzo will deliver a lecture exploring how President Lincoln understood the American Revolution as the great event of American history from which he drew conclusions about equality, the consent of the governed, and the nature of the revolution itself. The lecture will discuss how Lincoln drew inspiration from the nation’s Founders, which strengthened his resolve that the terrible costs of the Civil War would bring the nation "a new birth of freedom."
