Justin Delacour, an Associate Professor of political science at Lewis University, will explain his research on the common roles of political brinkmanship in the popularization of political outsiders. Dr. Delacour will compare the rise of Donald Trump in the United States to the rise in popularity of an unorthodox Colombian insurgent movement --the April 19th Movement (M-19)-- in the late 1970s and early 1980s. .

Peace Teach In film screening: The Voice of Hind Rajab
All are invited to a powerful screening of the Oscar-nominated film, The Voice of Hind Rajab, a film centered on the preserved voice of a six-year-old Palestinian girl whose final recorded calls were shared so that her life would not be erased. Grounded in the themes of Let This Radicalize You: Organizing and the Revolution of Reciprocal Care—a guiding text for this year’s Peace Teach-In—the film asks us to practice ethical listening, collective memory, and care in the face of violence and loss. Join us for a screening of Kemba, the powerful true story of Kemba Smith, followed by readings from Lewis University's Prison Education Program and a community conversation on education, human dignity, and repair. As part of the statewide "Why No New Prisons in Illinois" series, this event invites participants to consider how investments in education, especially learning that centers voices and experiences often pushed to the margins, can expand opportunities, strengthen communities, and address social harms before they lead to incarceration. Poverty Simulation Hosted by Community Health Nursing
This event simulates life experiences for individuals facing poverty. Poverty is a reality for many individuals and families. But unless you’ve experienced poverty, it’s difficult to truly understand. The Community Action Poverty Simulation (CAPS) bridges that gap from misconception to understanding. CAPS is an interactive immersion experience. It sensitizes community participants to the realities of poverty.
