Chaz Aguado Classical Guitar Concert
Arts Calendar
Dr. Chaz Aguado is the classical guitar instructor at Frederick Community College and is also an adjunct professor at Carroll Community College and Towson University. Dr. Aguado has been a private instructor for over ten years and is an active musician and teacher in the greater Washington DC/Baltimore area. He received his Doctor of Musical Arts from Shenandoah Conservatory and holds a master’s degree from University of Denver and a bachelor’s degree from Towson University. He also teaches other styles of guitar such as rock, country, blues, and metal at Lake Braddock Secondary School in Burke, Virginia. Some of the notable pedagogues he has studied classical guitar with are Mathew Palmer, Troy King, Laura Husbands, Jonathan Leatherwood, Julian Gray, and Ricardo Iznaola. Dr. Aguado performs regularly at many different venues. Most often you can find him performing classical guitar in recital and concert halls. He has arranged for a cordon bleu cook to prepare gourmet delights, and has invited his best friend, Robert, along too to provide the alibi. It's foolproof; what could possibly go wrong? Well... suppose Robert turns up not realizing quite why he has been invited. Suppose Robert and Jacqueline are secret lovers, and consequently determined that Jacqueline will NOT leave for the weekend. Suppose the cook has to pretend to be the mistress and the mistress can't cook. Suppose everyone's alibi gets confused with everyone else's. An evening of hilarious confusion ensues as Bernard and Robert improvise at breakneck speed.

It’s common for people to declare that they aren’t prejudiced and/or that they treat everyone equally. But many are unaware that we can have and act on biases without consciously knowing that we have them. In this hands-on workshop, participants will learn about implicit bias and take the Implicit Association Test (IAT) designed to pick up on our unconscious biases. We’ll then discuss the test, the effect of implicit biases on others, and how our awareness of biases can lead to more equitable behavior. Facilitator: Dr. Roxanna Harlow.

This program features an exciting variety of classical music works, representing key developments throughout the early evolution and diversification of the genre. From Classical oratorio to Romantic German lieder, comic operetta to flowery French mélodie, there is something for everyone in this classical music “tasting menu”. Works by Handel, Mozart, Brahms, Donizetti, Strauss, Faure and more.
Alexandra Johannsen is a Baltimore-based soprano and voice coach. She holds a B.M. in classical voice performance from Towson University where she also studied jazz/contemporary styles. She sings as a cantor and soloist with St John the Evangelist Church, and recently performed as a chorister in a production of Die Fledermaus with Victorian Lyric Opera Company. In the past, she has been cast in operatic roles, most notably, Hermia in Michael Ching’s Midsummer Night’s Dream and Charlene in John De Los Santos' Service Provider. She is an adjunct professor at Carroll County Community College as well as a private voice…

As a musician, your discography is like a biography for your art. It represents tangible milestones along your journey as an original musician. And just because we live in a streaming world doesn't mean that albums are dead. At this free workshop, we're going to look at effective ways to ensure that your album release is a success. It all starts with defining what success means to you. Is it making money? Focusing on fans? A balance of both? We are going to look at why albums are still viable products for musicians and how we can make money off of them still.
