Growing into Greatness: Maryland's Champion Trees
Growing into Greatness is a documentary that highlights the historical and natural grandeur of Maryland’s champion trees. Within the natural beauty of Maryland’s forests and fields resides a spectacular array of National Champion Trees, which represent the largest tree species of their type in the U.S. The project received financial support from the Maryland State Arts Council and the Carroll County Arts Council.

Join us for an inspiring evening with Lael Wilcox, the world-record-holding ultra-endurance cyclist, as part of the Lumen Scholars Program's inaugural annual lecture. This event embodies the mission of the Lumen Scholars Program—to illuminate paths of intellectual curiosity, personal growth, and civic engagement. Lael's story is a testament to the power of resilience, exploration, and community. This lecture is free and open to the public. All students, faculty, staff, and community members are welcome to attend.
In September 2024, Lael Wilcox completed a remarkable feat: cycling around the globe in 108 days, 12 hours, and 12 minutes, setting a new Guinness World Record for the fastest circumnavigation on bicycle by a woman. Her journey spanned over 18,000 miles across 21 countries, showcasing not only her physical endurance but also her unwavering determination.
