Audition Day 1: Saturday, April 19, 2025; 9:00am-5:00pm Audition Day 2: Sunday, May 11, 2025; 9:00am-5:00pm,
Attendance at both audition days is mandatory for all sections in the Drumline and Front Ensemble/Rhythm Section. Students who cannot attend an audition day must contact Dr. Smith in order to arrange a separate meeting. Priority will be given to students who attend both audition days.

Kevin Jones Guest Artist Concert - Percussion
Join us for a guest artist concert by percussionist Kevin Jones, supported by UCM Percussion Students. This event is supported by the African Performing Arts Fund.
Kevin Jones is a percussionist, band leader, producer, educator. A native of Englewood, New Jersey, Kevin grew up in a household immersed in jazz, soul, gospel and blues, from Charlie Parker and Lou Rawls to Nat King Cole and Mahalia Jackson, along with the pop and R&B legends of the times. Reportedly, Kevin’s grandmother, Maggie Walker Jones, once played with (and maybe even recorded with) Bessie Smith. The arts of all types were nurtured in the Jones household and piano lessons were a requirement, not an elective.
Jones traces his percussion expertise to the age-old ‘academy of the streets.’ Over the years Kevin has evolved an increasingly comprehensive approach to percussion, commanding respect from artists such as the Isley Brothers, Whitney Houston, Winard Harper, and Reggie Workman.

Arthur Lipner Guest Artist Jazz Vibes Concert
Join us for a guest artist, Jazz vibraphone concert by Arthur Lipner! This event is supported by the UCM Ovation Series, the Missouri Arts Council, and the National Endowment for the Arts.
Arthur Lipner is one of the top keyboard percussionists of his generation. He specializes in vibraphone, marimba and steel drums. In 2019, Arthur was invited to perform/adjudicate at percussion festivals in China and Russia. In 2018, he performed/adjudicated at the first-ever Australian International Vibraphone Competition. As a bandleader, guest soloist and educator, Arthur has been to over 30 countries including Ghana, Iceland, Mexico, New Zealand, Norway, Peru, Costa Rica, England, Scotland, Iceland, Morocco, Malaysia, the Caribbean and many more. He has toured in Europe/Latin America over 70 times, and performed at five PASIC’s.
As a recording artist and NYC session player, Arthur has appeared on over 50 albums. Recording session appearances have included Bluegrass, Traditional Jazz, Brazilian, Funk, Caribbean…

High school students (freshmen through seniors), UCM returning members, and current UCM students interested in auditioning are invited to join us for our help sessions this spring! All students are welcome including those that are unsure about where/if they plan to attend college. At help sessions, UCM percussion professors, instructors, and veteran student members of the ensemble will work with attendees on UCM technique, exercises, and performance pieces.
