Disaster Preparedness Workshop

The Northeast Document Conservation Center (NEDCC) will provide an Emergency and Disaster Preparedness workshop for the Digital Initiatives & Special Collections Division at Appalachian State University. Training such as this prepares staff members to protect collections on a day-to-day basis by identifying and mitigating risks, serving as “first responders” for collections that are damaged, and coordinating recovery from an emergency—large or small—that impacts the libraries at Appalachian State University. The workshop will:
• Provide an introduction to disaster preparedness, response, and recovery including risk assessment and collection prioritization;
• Explain emergency response and recovery methods for paper-based collections materials, photographic formats, and audiovisual media;
• Include a tabletop discussion of a hypothetical disaster scenario; and
• Include a hands-on wet salvage demonstration and activity.
