19th Annual MLK Day Keynote

WSSU Main Events Winston-Salem State University and Wake Forest University are partnering to celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with the 19th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day Keynote Speech featuring CNN political commentator Angela Rye. The theme is: “On Common Ground: Embracing Our Voices.” The keynote, at WSSU's K.R. Williams Auditorium, is free and open to the public. The keynote also will include musical selections from the WSSU University Choir and the Wake Forest and WSSU Gospel choirs.  About the Speaker, Rye is principal and CEO of IMPACT Strategies, a political advocacy firm based in Washington, D.C. In addition to her work with CNN, she has been featured as a politico, lawyer and advocate by several publications and outlets, including Marie Claire, Ebony, The Washington Post, BET, NBC, HBO, and ABC. 2019 Student Involvement Fair

Career Development Services (Project GIVE) in collaboration with University Student Activities and Engagement (USAE) will host the Spring Student Involvement Fair on Wednesday, January 23rd from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm, in the Donald Julius Reaves Student Activity Center, Campus Hall 100. The Student Involvement Fair is an annual campus event that introduces students to the wealth of opportunities to become involved both on and off campus. It is the perfect way for students to learn more about WSSU’s registered student organizations, local nonprofit agencies, and WSSU resources and programs. A Cry for Justice: Free Ronnie Long

WSSU Main Events Winston-Salem State University’s Department of History, Politics and Social Justice is presenting its Spring Colloquium from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 24, at The Enterprise Center, 1922 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive in Winston-Salem. “A Cry for Justice: Free Ronnie Long.” Panelists include: Larry Little, WSSU associate professor; Jamie Lau, associate clinical professor of law and supervising attorney for the Center for Criminal Justice and Professional Responsibility at the Duke Law School; and Ashleigh Long, the wife of Ronnie Long. EMERGE (Establishing Mindsets and Experiences Representing Growth towards Excellence) Certificate is an interactive co-curricular program designed to introduce students to and develop skillsets for becoming team members, leaders and contributing members of WSSU and the greater community.  This is a 5-week program is geared towards to First-year, Sophomore and Transfer students.  It provides them with opportunities to have in-depth conversations and engage in activities that will help them to develop a foundation of leadership skills and knowledge. Information is delivered through group activities, guest speakers, discussions, and role-playing that fuse the concepts of Servant Leadership, Transformative Leadership and the Social Change Model. Written by renowned Harlem Renaissance Playwright Laurence Holder.   It has taken a pair of intimidating, legendary men - Elijah Muhammad and Malcolm X - and brought them to utterly convincing life. The play is set in Muhammad's office, the headquarters of the Black Muslim movement, in the early 1960's.
