Her award-winning books, including Memphis, Martin, and the Mountaintop, and Evicted, center the lived experiences and resilience of Black communities, offering truth, healing, and hope for future generations.
In this special presentation, Duncan will reflect on her creative process, the historical figures who have inspired her journey, and the transformative power of children’s literature to affirm identity, preserve memory, and spark social change.

Guiding Eyes for the Blind Puppy Class

For the past five years we have been collaborating with Guiding Eyes for the Blind, Monroe Region, to host puppy class here at Nazareth. These future guide dogs and their volunteer puppy raisers attend puppy class in the Shults Forum one Tuesday evening a month (the first Tuesday of the month). Students are welcome to observe, and may get to help out during class (for example acting as a crowd or using wheelchairs/walkers to help acclimate the pups to new equipment). This is the class Orion attended when she was still part of Guiding Eyes!
