This year we are excited to launch our Holiday Fundraiser with FairTrade Caravan starting today, November 14th! Support Naz Alt Breaks and help us continue to provide affordable experiences to Nazareth students engaging in justice work and community-identified projects both globally and locally. This year students are traveling to Philadelphia and Asheville, NC in January and Colorado Springs and Maurepas, LA in March, focusing on issues such as criminal justice, disaster relief, LGBTQIA+ youth, and environmental justice.

*Flood (v.): to arrive in overwhelming amounts or quantities*
An exhibition of new work by Bradley Butler and Mitchell Messina. In Butler’s paintings and Messina’s sculpture, both artists contextualize a visual flood of emotions, thoughts, and beliefs through their investigation of light and darkness, the known and unknown, and other nuances of human existence. Surfaces that are deep and seem never ending are painted across the canvas, while the changed meaning of objects create a contrast between the familiar and the unfamiliar. Both artists use a personal vocabulary of abstraction to examine the powerful boundaries inherent in these parallels; parallels that surround and subconsciously bombard us both emotionally and physically on an everyday basis. The search for answers in their work serves to not only drive the art making process, but also to fuel the desire to keep asking questions.

We all know that the world is messy and often unpredictable. Learning the fundamentals of keeping ourselves physically safe is critical for ensuring a deeper sense of peace and safety in our day to day lives. If you'd like to learn, please join our trauma-informed self-defense class so you can learn to live well and fight The Good Fight.
Topics include mindfulness of surroundings, preventative planning for safety, and defending against a multitude of situations including wrist grabs, bear hugs and head locks. All exercises and drills will be optional, trauma-informed, and slow-paced to ensure physical and emotional safety. Our goal is effective learning, having fun, and growing together. Please wear clothing in which you feel comfortable moving around.

An exhibition of new work by Bradley Butler and Mitchell Messina. In Butler’s paintings and Messina’s sculpture, both artists contextualize a visual flood of emotions, thoughts, and beliefs through their investigation of light and darkness, the known and unknown, and other nuances of human existence. Surfaces that are deep and seem never ending are painted across the canvas, while the changed meaning of objects create a contrast between the familiar and the unfamiliar. Both artists use a personal vocabulary of abstraction to examine the powerful boundaries inherent in these parallels; parallels that surround and subconsciously bombard us both emotionally and physically on an everyday basis. The search for answers in their work serves to not only drive the art making process, but also to fuel the desire to keep asking questions.

We all know that the world is messy and often unpredictable. Learning the fundamentals of keeping ourselves physically safe is critical for ensuring a deeper sense of peace and safety in our day to day lives. If you'd like to learn, please join our trauma-informed self-defense class so you can learn to live well and fight The Good Fight.
Topics include mindfulness of surroundings, preventative planning for safety, and defending against a multitude of situations including wrist grabs, bear hugs and head locks. All exercises and drills will be optional, trauma-informed, and slow-paced to ensure physical and emotional safety. Our goal is effective learning, having fun, and growing together. Please wear clothing in which you feel comfortable moving around.

Guiding Eyes for the Blind Puppy Class

For the past five years we have been collaborating with Guiding Eyes for the Blind, Monroe Region, to host puppy class here at Nazareth. These future guide dogs and their volunteer puppy raisers attend puppy class in the Shults Forum one Tuesday evening a month (the first Tuesday of the month). Students are welcome to observe, and may get to help out during class (for example acting as a crowd or using wheelchairs/walkers to help acclimate the pups to new equipment). This is the class Orion attended when she was still part of Guiding Eyes!

As a partner institution, Kwansei Gakuin University (KGU) offers a 5-week "East Asian Study" program to Nazareth students. Located in Nishinomiya City, right outside Osaka, KGU boasts a beautiful campus and large student body of approximately 25,000 students. On this summer program, students select courses that suit their interests, which allows students to explore a variety of topics related to Japan and East Asia along with KGU students. Dr. Hannigan has curated and commissioned ten new vocal art songs in English with a narration to capture stories of women refugees and their esteemed heroine, Ruth Gruber. The Fort Ontario Emergency Refugee Center in Oswego, NY was the only Refugee Center sanctioned by Roosevelt during WWII to assist those fleeing persecution in Nazi Europe.
This project offers insight to lesser known history, includes collaborative and civic partnerships, and fosters awareness, advocacy and education. We Go On, Oswego also incites critical thinking, understanding, growth and empathy for marginalized persons. Compositional styles of these new vocal art songs capture a mosaic of: American SongBook, jazz and popular music, alongside the composers voices of today. Our world premiere performance will be followed by a new vocal anthology publication for advanced and professional singers.

We all know that the world is messy and often unpredictable. Learning the fundamentals of keeping ourselves physically safe is critical for ensuring a deeper sense of peace and safety in our day to day lives. If you'd like to learn, please join our trauma-informed self-defense class so you can learn to live well and fight The Good Fight.
Topics include mindfulness of surroundings, preventative planning for safety, and defending against a multitude of situations including wrist grabs, bear hugs and head locks. All exercises and drills will be optional, trauma-informed, and slow-paced to ensure physical and emotional safety. Our goal is effective learning, having fun, and growing together. Please wear clothing in which you feel comfortable moving around.

Rochester NSA Monthly Meeting

The Rochester chapter of the National Stuttering Association (NSA) hosts support group meetings on the second Thursday of every month for adults who stutter in the surrounding area. Not only do these meetings provide support and solidarity for people who stutter (PWS), but these meetings also call attention to ways to better advocate for the wellbeing of PWS and raise awareness for stuttering on campus and in Rochester (and surrounding areas). Group meetings are generally filled with conversation around fun and intriguing topics related to stuttering, ice breakers, and celebrating group members. Speech-Language Pathologists, students on campus who stutter, and/or people who have a genuine interest in learning more about stuttering and supporting PWS are welcome to attend! Guiding Eyes for the Blind Puppy Class

For the past five years we have been collaborating with Guiding Eyes for the Blind, Monroe Region, to host puppy class here at Nazareth. These future guide dogs and their volunteer puppy raisers attend puppy class in the Shults Forum one Tuesday evening a month (the first Tuesday of the month). Students are welcome to observe, and may get to help out during class (for example acting as a crowd or using wheelchairs/walkers to help acclimate the pups to new equipment). This is the class Orion attended when she was still part of Guiding Eyes!

Rochester NSA Monthly Meeting

The Rochester chapter of the National Stuttering Association (NSA) hosts support group meetings on the second Thursday of every month for adults who stutter in the surrounding area. Not only do these meetings provide support and solidarity for people who stutter (PWS), but these meetings also call attention to ways to better advocate for the wellbeing of PWS and raise awareness for stuttering on campus and in Rochester (and surrounding areas). Group meetings are generally filled with conversation around fun and intriguing topics related to stuttering, ice breakers, and celebrating group members. Speech-Language Pathologists, students on campus who stutter, and/or people who have a genuine interest in learning more about stuttering and supporting PWS are welcome to attend!
