Linfield Theatre: "The Vagina Monologues" staged reading

Published in over 48 languages, performed in over 140 countries and recently heralded by The New York Times as one of the most important plays of the past 25 years, Eve Ensler’s hilarious, eye–opening The Vagina Monologues is a tour into the last frontier, the forbidden zone at the heart of every woman. A show that’s rocked audiences around the world, this groundbreaking piece gives voice to a chorus of lusty, outrageous, poignant, and thoroughly human stories, transforming the question mark hovering over the anatomy into a permanent victory sign. On Friday, February 13, the Linfield Theatre Program, with help from Linfield students and faculty, community members and Linfield alumna will present a staged reading of the play with proceeds benefiting Henderson House, Yamhill County’s domestic violence shelter that provides support and services for victims of domestic and sexual violence. The reading will begin at 7 p.m. in the Richard and Lucille Ice Auditorium in Melrose Hall on the McMinnville campus. … Categories: McMinnville Campus, Portland Campus, Students, Linfield Faculty, Alumni, Open to the Public, Linfield Staff. When Voters Exit, Authoritarianism Survives - A Lecture by Professor Chipo Dendere (Linfield class of 2008)

Dr. Chipo Dendere, Wellesley College, will share insights and findings from her new book, "Death, Diversion, and Departure: Voter Exit and the Persistence of Authoritarianism in Zimbabwe," Cambridge University Press (2026). This groundbreaking work explores the complex interplay between voter demographics, political power, and authoritarian resilience in the context of Zimbabwe. Through gripping prose and meticulous research, Dr. Chipo Dendere shows how the emigration and/or death of young, progressive voters creates opportunities for authoritarian regimes to survive. Using Zimbabwe as a case study, Dr. Dendere shows how the lack of young, urban, and working professional voters because of mass death due to AIDS and mass migration in the wake of economic decline has increased the resilience of a regime that may have otherwise lost power. With authoritarianism on the rise globally and many citizens considering leaving home, Death, Diversion, and Departure provides timely insights into the impact of voter exit. Linfield Theatre: "The K of D"

The Linfield Theatre Program presents The K of D in the Ford Hall lobby at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 27 and Saturday, Feb. 28. Directed by senior Theatre Arts and Music major David Stephens, The K of D follows the story of Charlotte McGraw, a young girl struggling to come to terms with the death of her twin brother, Jamie. It also follows the growing "legend" of Charlotte, as narrated by the other youth in her small town. As with all great legends, truth and fiction become inextricably linked in this story. The truth is that Charlotte's brother was hit by a car and died in her arms. The truth is that moments before he died, he kissed her, gently, on the lips. The legend is that everything Charlotte kissed from that moment forward also died. The K of D begins upon the discovery of her new "skill" and tracks the events that transpire when the man who killed her brother returns to town and Charlotte and her friends attempt to get rid of him. The story purposely blurs the line between fact and fiction.… Categories: McMinnville Campus, Students, Linfield Faculty, Alumni, Open to the Public, Linfield Staff. Well Told! Bringing Personal Stories to Life (Part 2)

The second element of the storytelling workshop would be “experiential” and focused on bringing personal stories to life. This WS will be open to those who have a sincere desire to go deeper into telling their stories on stage.   We all have stories to tell and a unique voice and style for telling them. This is an experiential workshop for those interested in developing a short personal narrative for performance. We will cover some of the fundamentals in crafting a personal story and have an opportunity to share a brief story in a small group setting. There is no previous storytelling experience required. This is a welcoming environment for sharing a meaningful moment in your life through the art of storytelling. Categories: Students, Linfield Faculty, Linfield Staff.
