"The Middle Place: An Exploration of Grey Spaces in Illness and Recovery Narratives"

Memoirist Mallary Tenore Tarpley will discuss her new book, SLIP: Life in the Middle of Eating Disorder Recovery. This invitation-only event will delve into the author's personal story (detailing how she developed an eating disorder at age 12 after her mother died, her diagnosis and treatment, and her time in college) and include a discussion of the various ebbs and flows of her recovery as an adult and mother. While discussing the nuances of recovery, Tenore Tarpley will examine key concepts from her book, including restorative narratives, narrative psychology, and the imperfect "middle place" between acute sickness and full recovery.
