Rhapsody Series: Percussive Treasure

School of Music Join percussion faculty member Dr. Lee Hinkle and colleagues for a recital of unique and explosive new works for percussion. This performance will feature two new works from composer’s Brianna Wiegand and Connie Li inspired by a Research Grant from the College of Arts & Architecture utilizing unique percussive sounds and influences from the communities where they reside in Philadelphia & Baltimore, respectively. Two pieces by Penn State composer, Baljinder Sekhon, will be heard including his "Distances" for solo marimba (2016) and a brand new composition for prepared vibraphone and electronics entitled “Hope for a Treasure” (2025). The concert will conclude with an explosive new chamber percussion concerto by Pulitzer Prize winning composer Joseph Schwantner entitled “Fast Forward” (2021) for piano, double bass, percussion quartet and percussion soloist.
