Thursday, September 24th, 7:30 p.m.
(ticket required),
A curated list of notable avant-garde cinema presented in 16mm film and commented on by Steven Haines of Flea Market Films, with the assistance of our own Samuel Stanton.
When we think of a ‘movie,’ there are many common elements that come to mind: recognizable stars, containing narratives that resolve in about two hours, classic genres of action, romance, or comedy. However, the history of the motion picture also includes films that swim against the current commercial mode. These rebellious works have gone by many names: independent, avant-garde, experimental, film poems. Poetic films deliberately subvert audience expectations of conventional narratives. They encourage contemplation and focus in a world filled with distractions vying for your attention. Join us at 7:30PM on September 24, 2026 in the Olin Fine Arts…
