IQS Public Talk - "A Brief History of the Rainbow Effect" by Marko Cosic
In this lecture, we shall follow the historical development of human fascination with the rainbow effect, which has arguably occupied the human imagination since the dawn of time. Since the evolution of understanding of the rainbow effect spanned at least several thousand years, it is impossible to present a complete portrait in one lecture. Instead, we shall focus on the evolution of key ideas that led scientists to abandon supernatural explanations in favor of explanations based on rational principles, culminating in the current model of the rainbow effect, proposed by M. Nussenzveig and experimentally verified at the University of Rochester in the 1970s.

Join us for a hands-on de-escalation skills training with Dr. Rob Muthiah, Director of Leadership Development at CLUE Justice, Clergy and Laity United for Economic Justice.
Rev. Dr. Rob Muthiah brings over 25 years of experience in education, ministry, and activism to CLUE.
Rob worked as a professor of practical theology at Azusa Pacific Seminary for 16 years, where his teaching and research focused on leadership in faith-based communities, ethics, and personal formation. He also directed the school’s field education program, in which all seminary students participated.
He holds a Ph.D. in practical theology from Fuller Theological Seminary and an M.Div. from Northern Seminary. He is ordained through the Pacific Southwest Mennonite Conference of the Mennonite Church USA and has been an active member of Pasadena Mennonite Church for over 20 years.

Take a “road trip” with artist Joan Gladstone as she describes her current Hilbert exhibition “Route 66 – Happy 100th Birthday to America’s Mother Road.” After two road trips, Joan was inspired to create a series of oil paintings that turn back the clock to the heyday of the legendary road. She will show photos and tell stories from her travels and discuss her creative process for bringing iconic roadside signs, many that have disappeared or faded away, back to life. These signs guided millions of people as they drove from Chicago to Santa Monica to experience cities and small towns, national parks and clever attractions, mom-and-pop diners and motels, along the nation’s first great highway.

Workshop Description, This session addresses accessibility considerations for video used in Canvas—whether for teaching, training, communication, or student-facing resources.
