Labyrinth
The Chapman Labyrinth is based on the 12th century design in the nave of Chartres Cathedral, France. Labyrinths come in many shapes and have been important in a number of spiritual and secular traditions dating back 4,000 years. Artist Lecture: Phung Huynh
Join the Escalette Collection of Art for an artist talk with Phung Huynh.
Huynh is a Los Angles-based artist and educator with a practice in drawing, painting, public art, and community engagement. Much of her work explores the complexities of assimilation and cultural negotiation among Cambodian and Vietnamese refugees in the United States. This lecture will focus on her Donut (W)hole and Pink Donut Box series.
This event is held in conjunction with KIN: Portraits from the Escalette Collection, an exhibition of portraits from the Escalette Collection that explore portraiture as a site of relationship, belonging, and interdependence.

Abstract: This paper examines how industrialization transformed cultural values by analyzing changes in the historical usage of proverbs in printed texts from Great Britain between 1550 and 1900. Because proverbs tend to reflect shared moral and social values, tracking their changing use over time allows us to infer patterns of cultural change. Drawing on historical proverb dictionaries, we classify proverbs into thematic dimensions (based on targeted hypotheses) and data-driven topics (derived from unsupervised clustering), and track their presence in books and newspapers over time. OCIE Seminar Series Spring 2026
The Orange County Inland Empire (OCIE) Seminar series in History and Philosophy of Mathematics takes place at Chapman University as its main host, and is co-organized together with researchers from UC Riverside, CSU San Bernardino, and Pitzer College. It also occasionally integrates the Chapman University D.Sc. program in Math, Philosophy and Physics as its Graduate Colloquium.
The seminars are held in hybrid format on the Chapman University campus in the locations indicated for each talk below, and on Zoom. ,
