Skylark Speaker Series

From the Gridiron to Galaxies, "From the Gridiron to Galaxies" is an inspiring journey presented by Dakotah Tyler, a former college football athlete turned astrophysicist. This talk traverses Dakotah's unique path from sports to the stars, highlighting his transition into the field of exoplanets. Attendees will embark on an exploration of the ark of discovery of other planets in our galaxy and touch on the latest breakthroughs in our quest to understand the cosmos. Through Dakotah's personal narrative, the presentation will not only shed light on the vast mysteries of the universe but also emphasize the power of resilience, adaptability, and the pursuit of one's true passion. Dakotah Tyler is an astrophysicist and dedicated science communicator. His research focuses on the dynamic evolution of planets that orbit stars other than the Sun (exoplanets). Solar Eclipse Event

Join us for an unforgettable celestial experience at our Partial Solar Eclipse Viewing Event on April 8! From 10am to 12:30pm, with maximum occurring at approximately 11:12 am, we invite you to witness the fascinating phenomenon as the moon partially covers the sun, creating a captivating spectacle. Stick around to enjoy a celestial performance by our very own Orange Coast College Chamber Singers in the Planetarium Lobby at 12:15pm! At the event, we will have solar telescopes available for you to safely observe the eclipse up close. We will also be selling eclipse glasses to ensure everyone can enjoy the event safely for $1 each. Our team of knowledgeable astronomers will be on-hand to provide insights and explanations, guiding you through this extraordinary celestial event. Please note that although we won't be able to witness totality from our location, we will have the opportunity to observe a decent portion of the eclipse.
