This talk series, open to students, faculty, and the general public, brings philosophers and scholars of religion to MiraCosta to discuss how their expertise intersects with and can contribute to the big questions posed by science and technology. MiraCosta College Symphony Orchestra

Performing Arts This concert celebrates American music in honor of the 250th anniversary of our nation’s founding. For generations, the United States has inspired composers from both within and beyond its borders, shaping works that reflect its landscapes, cultures, and evolving identity. The program highlights that influence. We begin with Antonín Dvorák’s Symphony No. 9, “From the New World,” a work shaped by his impressions of America’s musical traditions. We continue with Edward MacDowell’s Suite No. 2, “Indian Suite,” one of the earliest major orchestral works by an American composer. The evening concludes with a world premiere by MiraCosta College Symphony Orchestra’s composer-in-residence, Christoph Rayburn—an original piece written to commemorate this historic anniversary. We hope you’ll join us for this special celebration of American music. Organization: MUSICDEPT. Event Contact Phone: 760-795-6446. Event Locator: 2026-ABQRSH. Big Questions: STEM & Human Values Talk

Lecture/Symposium In a world dominated by science and technology, the relevance of voices from the humanities is often forgotten–or worse, ignored. Yet the unprecedented changes fomented by science and technology–anthropogenic climate change, the rise of AI, advances in personalized medicine–have implications for society and indeed the very meaning of what it is to be human, topics of central concern to the humanities, especially philosophy and religious studies. This talk series, open to students, faculty, and the general public, brings philosophers and scholars of religion to MiraCosta to discuss how their expertise intersects with and can contribute to the big questions posed by science and technology.
