Words of Hope Service Project

Join our Service Learning & Volunteer Center for Words of Hope, an on-campus service project from Tuesday, September 8th to Tuesday, October 20th from 11am-2pm near the Clock Tower Lawn on Oceanside Campus.
Every year through Words of Hope, the community sends holiday messages to people who have been sexually abused while in the government’s custody. These greetings mean the world to survivors, so many of whom feel alone and forgotten.
MiraCosta students are invited to write holiday cards with words of encouragement and compassion, provided by Just Detention International*, for survivors who are currently incarcerated. For every 5 cards written, a MiraCosta student may earn 1 service hour. Student can write as many cards as they choose. Holiday cards and materials will be provided.
*Just Detention International is a health and human rights organization that seeks to end sexual abuse in all forms of detention. You can make a difference in the lives of incarcerated survivors of sexual abuse.

Film Screening: A Silent Voice (2016)
Film
This Japanese animated film follows a grade-school student with a hearing impairment who is bullied and transfers to another school. Years later, the former bully is tormented by his behavior and sets out to make amends. Directed by Naoko Yamada and winner of the Japanese Movie Critics Awards for Best Animated Feature Film.
Please note that parking lots 3B & 3C will not be ticketed. Feel free to check in at 6:30 PM just outside the screening area and join us for a fun connection activity, chat about the film, and enjoy light snacks and refreshments while supplies last. Then, settle in for the film at 7:00 PM.

Join our Service Learning & Volunteer Center for Words of Hope, an on-campus service project from Tuesday, September 8th to Tuesday, October 20th from 11am-2pm near the Clock Tower Lawn on Oceanside Campus.
Every year through Words of Hope, the community sends holiday messages to people who have been sexually abused while in the government’s custody. These greetings mean the world to survivors, so many of whom feel alone and forgotten.
MiraCosta students are invited to write holiday cards with words of encouragement and compassion, provided by Just Detention International*, for survivors who are currently incarcerated. For every 5 cards written, a MiraCosta student may earn 1 service hour. Student can write as many cards as they choose. Holiday cards and materials will be provided.
*Just Detention International is a health and human rights organization that seeks to end sexual abuse in all forms of detention. You can make a difference in the lives of incarcerated survivors of sexual abuse.

Words of Hope Service Project

Join our Service Learning & Volunteer Center for Words of Hope, an on-campus service project from Tuesday, September 8th to Tuesday, October 20th from 11am-2pm near the Clock Tower Lawn on Oceanside Campus.
Every year through Words of Hope, the community sends holiday messages to people who have been sexually abused while in the government’s custody. These greetings mean the world to survivors, so many of whom feel alone and forgotten.
MiraCosta students are invited to write holiday cards with words of encouragement and compassion, provided by Just Detention International*, for survivors who are currently incarcerated. For every 5 cards written, a MiraCosta student may earn 1 service hour. Student can write as many cards as they choose. Holiday cards and materials will be provided.
*Just Detention International is a health and human rights organization that seeks to end sexual abuse in all forms of detention. You can make a difference in the lives of incarcerated survivors of sexual abuse.

Yet the unprecedented changes fomented by science and technology–anthropogenic climate change, the rise of AI, advances in personalized medicine–have implications for society and indeed the very meaning of what it is to be human, topics of central concern to the humanities, especially philosophy and religious studies.
