Carolina Series: Marshgrass Mamas
etherredgecenter.universitytickets.com,
Students: $5, Adults: $20,
,
From John’s Island SC, the heartland of the Lowcountry, the founding members of the Marshgrass Mamas came together in 2001 and have been creating their own form of swampy music for over two decades. While they are at home among the marshes and songs of the shorebirds, the roots of their music stem from the heart and soul of traditional Bluegrass and Appalachian Old-Time classics. The Mamas are known not just for playing music but also for being more than entertaining on stage, all the while stomping out their signature sounds. Beautiful harmonies mixed with a good splash of ridiculousness are sure to melt your heart and keep you coming back for more hence their consistently sold-out shows. If “girls’ weekend” was a band…it’d be the Mamas.

Pipeline
Etherredge Center Room 103 O'Connell Theatre
Pipeline, By Dominique Morriseau, Director: Dewey Scott-Wiley
Nya, an inner-city public high school teacher, is committed to her students but desperate to give her only son Omari opportunities they’ll never have. When a controversial incident at his upstate private school threatens to get him expelled, Nya must confront his rage and her own choices as a parent. But will she be able to reach him before a world beyond her control pulls him away? With profound compassion and lyricism, Pipeline brings an urgent conversation powerfully to the fore. Morisseau pens a deeply moving story of a mother’s fight to give her son a future — without turning her back on the community that made him who he is.
Thanks to underwriting generously provided by the Office of the Provost, USCA students may see this performance free of charge. In order to do so, students must come to the Box Office, show a valid USCA Student ID, and claim your ticket. Only one ticket will be allowed…

A sextet of stars and pianist of The New York Gilbert & Sullivan Players perform The Pirates of Penzance in one act. Set sail with this classic comedy that boasts one of the most famous patter songs in musical theatre history. On the coast of Cornwall, a band of tenderhearted pirates celebrates the coming of age of Frederic, who was mistakenly apprenticed to the pirates until his 21st birthday. Now, Frederic has vowed to devote his life to the extermination of piracy - until a ludicrous leap year snag threatens to keep him apprenticed to the pirates for life!
After intermission, the performers return in black tie and gowns to entertain the audience with many selections from the full repertoire of Gilbert & Sullivan’s comic operas - including our signature section - impromptu audience requests!
