Jazz-Week charting vocalist and songwriter Karla Harris has captivated audiences at events such as the Sarasota Jazz Festival, Greenville Jazz Festival, Portland Jazz Festival, Oregon Coast Jazz Party, Nantucket Arts Festival, Atlanta Jazz Festival, and John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts as part of the Arts Across America live performance series. In 2022 she was awarded a distinguished Jazz Road grant through the South Arts foundation. This is a concert filled with powerful, emotion-tugged vocals presented through straight-ahead and contemporary jazz, blues favorites, and a few originals, Latin and of course stunning scatting. This is musicianship at the very highest level and that by itself always leads to startlingly innovative approaches within so many of the songs. Karla is known to lead her group on a razors edge, in a such way that they NEVER play any tune the same way twice.

,
From John’s Island SC, the heartland of the Lowcountry, the founding members of the Marshgrass Mamas came together in 2001 and have been creating their own form of swampy music for over two decades. While they are at home among the marshes and songs of the shorebirds, the roots of their music stem from the heart and soul of traditional Bluegrass and Appalachian Old-Time classics. The Mamas are known not just for playing music but also for being more than entertaining on stage, all the while stomping out their signature sounds. Beautiful harmonies mixed with a good splash of ridiculousness are sure to melt your heart and keep you coming back for more hence their consistently sold-out shows. If “girls’ weekend” was a band…it’d be the Mamas.

Nya, an inner-city public high school teacher, is committed to her students but desperate to give her only son Omari opportunities they’ll never have. When a controversial incident at his upstate private school threatens to get him expelled, Nya must confront his rage and her own choices as a parent. But will she be able to reach him before a world beyond her control pulls him away? With profound compassion and lyricism, Pipeline brings an urgent conversation powerfully to the fore.
