Noon Forum- Citizen Responsibilities & the Election

Noon Forum- The Coming Collapse of Our Civilization
William Butler Yeats talked about the early years of the 20th century as a time when things were falling apart, a time when the best lacked all conviction and the worst were filled with passionate intensity. Are we approaching such times today? Is civilization about to collapse around us? And, if so, what’s the best way to face such a world? At this forum, Ken Blanchard, emeritus professor of political science, will discuss the indications we might be headed toward civilizational collapse and suggest strategies of dealing with catastrophes ranging from hyperinflation to nuclear war to the Zombie apocalypse. Join us for what should be a passionate and intense presentation.

Noon Forum - What's in the Governor's Budget?
The Noon Forum for Wednesday, December 9, 2026, will be presented by Julie Johnson. Johnson is a regular at the SD Legislature advocating for issues of concern to NE South Dakota and NSU. She is in the Appropriations Committee almost every day. The 2027 Legislative Session really kicks off when the Governor gives his Budget Address on December 1, which is his proposed budget. This conversation will outline what the Governor is proposing in areas of interest to us, so we can understand it and follow along when the Legislature begins on January 12, 2027.

Noon Forum - Small Campus, Big Impact: Celebrating Student Achievement at Huron Community Campus
What happens when students are given the opportunity to learn, connect, lead, and make an impact in a small-campus setting? Join us for a look back at Fall 2026 at Northern State University’s Huron Community Campus, where our students have spent the semester doing big things both inside and beyond the classroom. Sarah Melrose and Doug Pietz will talk about Huron students' accomplishments, projects, and moments of growth, celebrating the students who make Huron Community Campus such a vibrant part of the Northern State community.
