Independence Day Eve Chess Tournament
The James River Valley Chess Association and the Northern State University Chess Club will host a chess tournament on July 3, 2025, in the Beulah Williams Library on the Northern State University Campus.
The tournament is free and open to the public. No entry fee or membership required. Scholastic players (K-12) are especially encouraged to participate.
The tournament will start at 5:30 pm. This will be a three round, G 25 “Glicko” rated tournament. Sets and clocks will be provided.

Meet the Homecoming Royalty Candidates at Casino Night
Come hang out at Casino Night, a 1920s-themed event that’s part of this year’s Wolves Through Time Homecoming week. You’ll get to meet the 2025 Homecoming Royalty Candidates, play some casino-style games (just for fun—no real money), and win tickets you can use to enter for raffle prize baskets.
We’ll have free pizza thanks to the Foundation and a mocktail bar with fun twenties-inspired drinks. Dress up in your best 1920s look if you want, or just show up however you’re comfortable.
It’s free and open to all students—bring your friends and stop by for a good time.

Wolves on the Run: Homecoming Amazing Race
Grab your friends, form a team, and get ready to race! This 80s-themed Amazing Race is part of our Wolves Through Time Homecoming Week—and it’s going to be totally rad.
Teams will compete in mini challenges across campus, racing to complete them all in the fastest time. Think puzzles, physical tasks, random surprises—and lots of laughs along the way.
The winning team gets bragging rights and a gift card to go grab a bite somewhere in the Aberdeen community.
Come dressed in your best 80s look (neon encouraged) or just show up ready to compete. Free to participate and open to all students.

Whether you're looking to get a little competitive or just hang out with friends, this is your midweek chance to slow down and enjoy being outside on campus. Come dressed in your best 50s-inspired look if you're into it—or just drop by as you are.
Stick around after for glow-in-the-dark kickball once the sun goes down—it’s going to be a blast.

Celebrate tradition and school spirit at this year’s Homecoming Coronation. We'll honor the incredible students selected as this year’s royalty candidates and crown the 2025 Homecoming Royalty. Homecoming Bonfire: Burning of the W
Wrap up the night with a signature Homecoming tradition: the Burning of the W. Gather around the bonfire on the north-end of the Barnett Center Parking Lot as we light the W in honor of Wolves past, present, and future.
In addition to the big burn, we’ll have smaller fire pits for making s’mores, relaxing, and spending time with friends. It’s a cozy, laid-back way to close out an unforgettable evening.
