Noon Forum - NSU Speech & Debate Team
The Noon Forum for Wednesday, April 23, 2025 will be presented by Dr. Justin (Gus) Foote, Assistant Professor of Communication Studies and Director of Forensics, and NSU Speech & Debate team students. Their topic is "An Entertaining Noon with NSU Speech and Debate Team".
The nationally recognized NSU Speech and Debate team will regale you will some of the performances they brought to the Pi Kappa Delta National Tournament. You will laugh, you may cry, you will definitely laugh, and just maybe you will see Coach Gus perform for the first time in NSU history!!!
The Noon Forum is held in the NSU Beulah Williams Library Round Room from 12-1pm on Wednesdays and is sponsored by the Center for Public History & Civic Engagement and the Knight Foundation.

Student Government Association Meeting
The NSU Student Government Association (SGA) serves as the governing body/voice of the pack, representing all Northern students. Functions of SGA include overseeing the creation and recognition of all organizations, delegating General Activity Fee fund allocation on campus every spring, representing NSU at South Dakota Student Federation meetings, and serving as the bridge between the student body and the South Dakota regental system. SGA meets weekly during the academic year and welcomes all students, Northern employees, and community members to attend. For more information, stop by their office in the Hub on the second level of Avera Student Center, or visit their social media.
Open Forum is at the beginning of every meeting. All Northern students are invited to bring their questions or concerns to SGA during Open Forum.
Meetings are open to the general public unless the SGA goes into a closed session. Business regarding students and student concerns occur during these meetings. .

CJUS Speaker Event - Dr. Risdon Slate
“Resilience in the Storm and The Criminalization of Mental Illness”
Dr. Risdon Slate, an expert in criminal justice and mental health, will speak on the criminalization of mental illness and the challenges it creates within the justice system. A Professor Emeritus of Criminology and a nationally recognized mental health advocate, Dr. Slate combines professional expertise with personal experience to offer a powerful perspective on this critical issue. His newly released memoir, Resilience in the Storm: My Journey with Mental Illness, will be available for purchase and signing. ,
This event will be held in the NSU Centennial Room C & D and is free and open to the public. It is sponsored by the NSU TRIO McNair Program, College of Arts and Sciences and the Center for Public History and Civic Engagement.
