Collective Self-Defense: U.S. in NATO

Brian Bengs, former legal advisor and operational law instructor at NATO School Oberammergau, will be speaking on April 2, 2024 at 7:00pm in the Student Center Centennial Rooms C/D on NSU campus.  His topic is "Collective Self-Defense: Understanding U.S. Involvement In NATO". The presentation will explore the historical origin of NATO, its purpose, organizational structure, and role in the international security system.  Although Russian aggression in Ukraine has renewed the importance of NATO as a cornerstone of U.S. foreign policy, the "America First" movement opposes U.S. involvement in the Alliance.  Thus, a key topic will be the impact of an American withdrawal upon European and American security. The Noon Forum for Wednesday, April 3, 2024 will be presented by Dr. Cheng-Hsein Wu, Assistant Professor of Teacher Education, and Dr. Nicole Schutter, Assistant Professor of Teacher Education.  Their topic is "American Schools and Taiwanese Schools: Five Essential Differences". Noon Forum - Dr. Bixi Qiao

The Noon Forum for Wednesday, April 17, 2024 will be presented by Dr. Bixi Qiao, Assistant Professor of Psychology.  Her topic is "Perceptions about Reporting of Bullying Experiences Among College Students". This presentation examines university students’ perceptions about reporting bullying within the university, with a focus on attitudes, perceived subjective norms, and perceived behavioral control. Participants generally considered seeking help from a university authority figure as a viable strategy for handling bullying but doubted its effectiveness in stopping bullying. They preferred to handle bullying themselves and perceived the same to be the case for other students. While most had a positive view of their university's approach to handling bullying, they had limited knowledge about reporting procedures.
