Using AI Ethically in Writing Workshop
Good writing is thinking on the page, and the strongest writing comes from doing that thinking yourself. This workshop shows how to keep AI in a supporting role as you move through an assignment (developing a topic, focusing a thesis, planning research, outlining, and drafting) so the ideas, the decisions, and the words stay your own.
Rather than letting AI generate the work, we’ll practice using it to quiz you on your reading, challenge a thesis you’ve drafted, and point out the weak spots in a draft you’ve already written. And we’ll cover the do’s, don’ts, and real dangers that get writers in trouble, from the illusion of understanding to invented sources. The presenter is Robert Nguyen, Writing Consultant, USD Writing Center.

Anna Mavromatis artist talk
The University Libraries are bringing the artist Anna Mavromatis to campus who will discuss her work which incorporates several elements such as costumes and architecture, altered books, and her writing process into her art. She states that her works come to her from needs we all share: seeking to understand the whys and hows of one's existence. She states she is “trying to distinguish ages old lies from truths, while pursuing a path to know thyself.
Concentrating in ways to correct past societal sins prohibiting beings in reaching their potential. Giving testimony to injustices inflicted through the age-old human need assessing others' worth based in gender, race, nationality.” Mavromatis’ work showcases a variety of printmaking techniques, historic and contemporary photographic processes and traditional surface decoration.
