Lavender Bridge is an affinity group that welcomes students who identify as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Questioning/Queer, Intersex, and Asexual and other minoritized sexual orientations and gender expressions. The accountability group is called Employees for LGBTQIA+ Advocacy and is intended for employees who want to expand their knowledge of supporting LGBTQIA+ individuals and communities. Accountability groups hold themselves responsible for their goals and actions and acknowledge the values of other groups to which they don’t belong, within the context of equity work. For cisgender heterosexual people, these spaces provide an opportunity to work explicitly on understanding and critically analyzing heteronormative culture and cisgender privilege while putting the onus on cisgender and heterosexual people to teach each other rather than depending on LGBTQIA+ knowledge and experiences (as often occurs in integrated spaces).
