NanoCon International Film Festival Gala

Special Events The 2019 NanoCon Mk. VI Science-Fiction Convention, begins on Friday, March 22, 2019, with the NanoCon International Film Festival (NIFF). The week-long film festival will be highlighting winning films from the more than 1500 NIFF independent film submissions. Beginning at 5 PM on Friday, March 22, 2019 join celebrities and other guests at the NIFF Red-Carpet Premiere in the Wollenberg Auditorium. Festivities will include food and drink. International Festival Planning Meeting

Student Activities This meeting will consist of planning everything from the big picture view, to the smaller logistical details associated with this years 29th Annual International Festival. The meeting is open to all students, staff, and faculty who would like to get involved.  Planning consists of vendors, food trucks, performers, speakers, and sponsors. Last Day to be Enrolled in a Waitlisted Class

Academics Today is the last day the Registration Office can enroll you in a class. You must have previously placed yourself on a waitlist for the class. Students on a waitlist are not guaranteed space in the class, or that LCC will make a new section available. However, students are not charged tuition and fees for a waitlisted class, until the Registration Office enrolls them in the class. Writer Mayumi Tsutakawa presents five “woman warriors” in the arts and journalism whose inspiring stories reach back to the early years of our region. Meet the pioneering photographer Imogen Cunningham, Black American jazz musician Ruby Bishop, Chinese American artist Priscilla Chong Jue, Leftist journalist Anna Louise Strong, and Native American linguist Vi Hilbert. With larger, longer wildfire seasons, accelerating species extinction, ocean acidification, and sea-level rise, it’s increasingly clear that climate change isn’t something that’s about to happen—it’s here. But while the laundry list of problems wrought by climate change is well-known, few talk about how our moral beliefs about nature have led us to the brink. In this presentation, ethicist Brian G. Henning discusses how global warming itself is not the only problem—it’s a symptom of a larger issue concerning how we conceive of ourselves and our relationship to the natural world. Brian G. International Festival Planning Meeting

International Festival Planning Meeting

Student Activities This meeting will consist of planning everything from the big picture view, to the smaller logistical details associated with this years 29th Annual International Festival. "How To Help: Supporting People with Mental Health Issues"

Student Activities This presentation from speaker Tara Rolstad will show how simple steps can make a big difference in creating a supportive community environment for mental health. Tara will help open a community dialogue that will help shatter the stigma of mental health. Audience members will be given practical things they can do right away to help those they know who are struggling with mental illness. Tara is the founder and director of Shattering Stigma with Stories: Understanding Mental Health; produces mental health conferences for faith communities, businesses and other organizations; and blogs at shatteringstigma.com. She has performed stand-up comedy around the Pacific Northwest with Stand Up for Mental Health, and is co-author of the book “No, Really, We WANT You to Laugh: Mental Illness and Stand-Up Comedy: Transforming Lives.”. International Festival Planning Meeting

Student Activities This meeting will consist of planning everything from the big picture view, to the smaller logistical details associated with this years 29th Annual International Festival. The meeting is open to all students, staff, and faculty who would like to get involved.  Planning consists of vendors, food trucks, performers, speakers, and sponsors. Marketing for the event, and promoting requires a division of labor, and areas of focus for the group.  The International Festival at LCC is the largest festival the campus hosts, and as such it is a great opportunity to showcase the colleges commitment to intercultural competence, awareness of others, and a leading show of respect for the multicultural foundations of our community, and country.
