Japanese Games with Mukogawa Students
We will be hosting 13 Mukogawa (Japanese) students to play traditional Japanese games.
Games will include: kendama (cup-and-ball toy), daruma otoshi (stacking game), fukuwarai (face-making game), as well as other pair and group activities such as Pictionary and musical chairs with Japanese music.

This is a casual bring-your-own-lunch event. If you would like to share food, you are welcome to do so. Plates, cups, and utensils will be provided.
Japanese language skills are not required; however, if you are enthusiastic about learning the language, you are welcome to practice with the Mukogawa students.

We will be making Japanese rice balls (onigiri). Rice, salt, and seaweed will be provided, but please bring your own ingredients to put inside the onigiri.
Suggested ingredients: smoked salmon, canned tuna with mayonnaise, pickled plum, cucumber, avocado, cooked sausage, ham, corn, or Spam.

You will learn the basic skills of Japanese flower arrangement (ikebana).
Materials are limited, but you are welcome to observe the workshop. If you would like to participate, please bring the following materials:
A shallow vase or wide, low bowl(Diameter: about 20–30 cm / 8–12 inches; Depth: about 4–8 cm / 1.5–3 inches)
Garden scissors
Kenzan (flower frog) (Diameter: 6–8 cm / 2.5–3 inches; approx. $15–$30 on Amazon)
Flowers: 2 main flowers (focal flowers) and 2–3 supporting stems (greens, branches, filler)

Japanese dance workshop (BON ODORI)
Come join us for a fun and energetic Japanese Dance Workshop!

, Japanese Obon Dance is a fun and easy traditional dance enjoyed by people of all ages, from young children to seniors. The dances feature simple, repetitive steps and arm movements, so no dance experience is needed!
We are excited to welcome our special guest instructor, Izumi Pierce, who has been teaching and performing Japanese dance for 28 years.
Comfortable clothing is recommended. Everyone is welcome!

Note: This is not a formal tea ceremony. You will learn how to prepare traditional Japanese tea and how to drink it properly.
You are welcome to observe the workshop. If you would like to participate, please bring the following materials.

Required materials:
Tea bowl (or any bowl), preferably porcelain, ceramic, or stoneware (about 13–14 cm in diameter)
Bamboo whisk (chasen) and tea scoop (chashaku) (approx. $12 on Amazon)
25–30 cm square cotton cloth.
