Join the next Life Science Seminar on Oct. 2 at 3 p.m. in the Murie Auditorium and via Zoom with guest speaker Tahzay Jones from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service for a talk on "CBMP Coastal Biodiversity Monitoring: A program at the intersection of food security, science, and international policies". The Arctic Environmental Protection Strategy (1991) laid the groundwork for the Arctic Council and the Conservation of Arctic Flora and Fauna (CAFF) working group. CAFF’s Circumpolar Biodiversity Monitoring Program was developed to coordinate Arctic-wide species monitoring through focused ecosystem teams, though most teams initially lacked Indigenous participation. An exception is the Coastal team, which collaborated closely with the Inuit Circumpolar Council to design a food security focused monitoring approach. This model continues to strengthen Indigenous involvement in biodiversity monitoring across the Arctic, from Norway to the Aleutians. In person: Murie Auditorium, Online via Zoom.
