Project 2025 What it says about education and why it matters
Project 2025 says, "...the federal Department of Education should be eliminated.” Other language proposes to reduce or eliminate numerous protections for a variety of people and reduce enforcement for sex-based discrimination and civil rights violations. Join us for a lunch and learn session with Chef Amy Foote via Zoom or in person at the UAF Matanuska Experiment Farm and Extension Center, 1509 Georgeson Road, Palmer.
We will talk about Alaska Native traditional foods and healing ourselves and our community. Foote is director of Indigenous cuisine for Nana Management Services, and a longtime chef at the Alaska Native Medical Center.

Palmer: Food Safety During the Holidays webinar
The holiday season is a special time for large meals, family gatherings and, of course, leftovers! Unfortunately, the holidays can also be a time of increased risk of foodborne illness.
This free online presentation will be led by Leif Albertson, a health, home and family development agent with the University of Alaska Fairbanks Cooperative Extension Service. Albertson will summarize the proper cooking, cooling, and reheating practices key to keeping dishes and families safe. Please register via this Zoom link.

Field Safety Training - Avalanche Awareness
This awareness level course is important for anyone heading into the mountains during seasons in which snow is likely. Learn to identify avalanche slopes and hazards. Understand red flag situations and scenarios. Learn how to use critical rescue gear in the event of a burial. This course will be both inside and outside, dress appropriately. Roughly 7 hours.

This is a 20-hour backcountry medicine course. It provides tools for making first aid decisions when away from easily accessible medical care. Wilderness Medical Associates provides the curriculum and the certification upon successful completion. This course is a must for anyone who spends time in Alaska.
