Take a stroll through a winter wonderland under the Arctic Lights at the Georgeson Botanical Garden. The garden, on the University of Alaska Fairbanks' Troth Yeddha' Campus, will be festooned with lights on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, beginning Dec. 19, from 5-9 p.m. through Jan. 18. Visitors are encouraged to take a walk on the paths between the garden beds, which are tucked in snugly for the winter. Fairbanks Curling Lions’ 34th annual Sparktacular celebration

The University of Alaska Fairbanks will host the Fairbanks Curling Lions’ 35th annual Sparktacular celebration on Tuesday, Dec. 31. Fireworks will be launched from UAF’s West Ridge starting at 8 p.m. This event will also be livestreamed on the UAF Facebook page and YouTube channel. Most UAF buildings, including the UA Museum of the North, will be closed during the fireworks display. Alaska Railroad trains travel through the area, and pedestrians and snowmachine riders are asked to stay clear of the tracks. Personal fireworks, bonfires, drones and sky lanterns are prohibited. Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR) Training - Faculty & Staff

For many fields, training in Responsible Conduct of Research is more than just a good idea—it’s a requirement set by major funding agencies like the NIH and NSF. Even if it’s not mandatory for everyone (yet), I strongly encourage all key research personnel who haven’t taken it to dive in. RCR training isn’t just about research involving animals or human subjects. It spans crucial topics like: Data management: acquisition, sharing, and ownership, , Ethical publication practices and responsible authorship, , Mentorship: training, responsibilities, and relationships. , The training has two parts: Online module to be completed beforehand, , In-person (via Zoom) session, lasting about four hours. , Together, they lay a strong foundation for ethical and responsible research at UAF. Field Safety Training - Avalanche Awareness

This awareness level course is important for anyone heading into the mountains during seasons in which snow is likely. Learn to identify avalanche slopes and hazards. Understand red flag situations and scenarios. Learn how to use critical rescue gear in the event of a burial. This course will be both inside and outside, dress appropriately. Roughly 7 hours. 3 Minute Thesis Competition
