Mental Health First Aid In-Person
The UAF Student Health and Counseling Center is proud to offer Mental Health First Aid training throughout the academic year at a reduced rate for the UA community. SHCC mental health counselors who have been certified as Mental Health First Aid instructors deliver the course multiple times per semester, via in-person and virtual options. Mental Health First Aid teaches trainees how to identify, understand, and respond to emerging, worsening, and crisis-level signs and symptoms of mental health and substance use challenges among adult populations.

Indigenous Peoples' Day 2025
Celebrate Indigenous Peoples' Day with us as we honor Alaska Native people, culture, and knowledge. This day invites reflection on the Indigenous wisdom that strengthens our community. Alaska and Polar Regions Collections & Archives- Open House
The Alaska and Polar Regions Collections and Archives at the University of Fairbanks Alaska will be hosting an Open House on Oct. 16 from 4-7 p.m.
We'll be displaying highlights from our collections for the public and University to come in and view.
Our theme for the year is Dog Mushing, titled Breaking Trail: History, Heritage and Huskies is the 100th Anniversary of the 1925 Diphtheria, Serum Run to Nome, the event that for which legendary dog Togo would become famous for.
We'll be featuring the collections of our own departments, like Photos & Manuscripts, Rare Books & Maps, Alaskana, Film, Oral History, and Native Languages as well as special guests like our University of Alaska Museum of the North and Eielson Air Force Base's Historian. We'll also have several dogs on the premises for pets and cuddles with local volunteer pet therapy organization Companions, Inc.
Light refreshments will be served, with free parking beginning at 5 p.m.

Arctic Leadership Lecture Series: Melanie Bahnke
Melanie Bahnke, president and CEO of Kawerak, Inc. will speak on Indigenous leadership and community-driven solutions in Alaska. A first-language speaker of St. Lawrence Island Yupik and a tribal member of the Native Village of Savoonga, Bahnke has dedicated her career to advancing the well-being of rural and Indigenous communities. She has served on statewide and national boards and brings deep insight into the cultural, social and political issues shaping Alaska. In her talk, she will share reflections on resilience and self-determination across the North. This event will be held via Zoom.

14th Annual Alaska Interior Medical Education Summit (AIMES)
Student and community members can explore an ever-expanding array of health careers and educational opportunities at the 14th annual Alaska Interior Medical Education Summit.
The summit will feature demonstrations, panel discussions and hands-on activities to introduce attendees to various health care careers and education options. It will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 25, in the Murie Building on UAF campus.
Health care professionals, organizations and vendors from across the United States are expected to participate. Attendees will be able to explore a full range of health care careers including medical doctors, nursing, veterinary medicine, and dental.

Act I offers a dreamlike, haunting take on Henry V, where heroic speeches cloak a ruthless pursuit of conquest, crafted and performed by UAF students and community actors. Act II erupts into The Comedy of Errors, a wild farce of mistaken identities set against the chaos of a tariff war, complete with mask work and mayhem. With live music, vibrant lighting, and imaginative use of UAF’s stock materials, this “Blanket Fort Theatre” brings history into sharp, hilarious focus. Rooted in the spirit of Fairbanks, Historical Comical explores the relevance of Shakespeare’s themes in today’s world — questioning authority, finding joy in chaos, and celebrating community.

Night for the North
The Northern Alaska Environmental Center (NAEC) holds an annual benefit to raise funds and awareness in support of their mission. This year is especially important for raising awareness among our Alaska community about the future of NAEC and how we can work together to ensure the protection of land, water, and people across the state. The event will feature talks by NAEC leadership and community partners, an auction of local goods, musical and dance entertainment, and dinner.
